Johansen J., Richard May 11, 1928 Oct 10, 2013 He lived a life of service to his country and community. Early on he served in the Navy on the USS H.R. Kenyon. Afterward, he worked in construction and owned his own business, JJJ Builders. His company built the original church building and parsonage of the Northwest Hills Church. He later became the contractor for the building. Richard also sold real estate and was an auctioneer. Richard enjoyed visits from his twin brother, Robert. They would visit and talk about their youth and their friends of the past. In May 2013, in honor of Richard and Roberts 85th birthday, we held a family reunion at Mahoney State Park. He was an original member of the Irvington Volunteer Fire Department, was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 331 and VFW Post 2503, where he served on the House Committee and served as Past Commander of American Legion Post 1 from 1989-1990. He also volunteered at the Omaha VA Hospital and was a member of the 40 et 8. Richard loved his family and his hobbies. He loved taking his grandchildren to the Ozarks during the summer in a school bus that he renovated. We were joined by many other families on these trips, making many meaningful memories. He taught his son, Herb, and his grandsons the construction trade and they value the knowledge they received from him. His daughter, Pam, was his right-hand helper in her youth; they traveled showing Charolais Cattle, building fences and doing anything else she could help him with. Richard enjoyed raising Charolais Cattle, Siberian Husky dogs, Landrace Pigs, and chickens. He also loved his horse, Crystal, and Walter, his goat and became a bountiful gardener.
