SAMPSON, Richard J., Jul 7, 1932 Sep 2, 2012. Age 80, Omaha. He was born in Greeley, Nebraska, the son of Dr. and Mrs. Herbert Sampson. Richard attended Omaha Cathedral grade and high school. He was a graduate of Creighton University in 1954. Richard served in the US Coast Guard until 1956 when he joined the Mutual of Omaha companies, being assigned to the Los Angeles office. Mr. Sampson held a number of West Coast management positions before returning to the home office. He became senior operating officer of the group operation in 1986 and retired as Senior Executive Vice President in 1994. Richard became a resident of Naples, Florida in 1995 but continued to serve on the Boards of Directors of Mutual and United of Omaha until 2000. Richard was preceded in death by parents, Herb and Florence; brother Herb, sisters, Carmen (Sr. Mary Jane O.P) and Helen Wheeler. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; sons: Rick and John, both of Omaha, Jim of Denver; daughters: Jennifer (Kenneth Johnson) of San Rafael, CA, Carla Dorpinghaus (Lynn) and Rebecca Johnson (Jeff), both of Omaha; sisters: Millie Nielsen of Ft. Myers, FL, Jean Parker (Bob) of Spokane, WA, Sally Brady of Lincoln, NE; brother, Fr. Jim Sampson SP of Albuquerque, NM; sisters-in-law, Marie and Kathleen Johnson; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Wednesday, 5pm to 7pm, with VIGIL SERVICE at 7pm at the West Center Chapel. SERVICES Thursday, 9:30am, West Center Chapel to St. Leo the Great Catholic Church for MASS at 10am. Entombment, Resurrection Mausoleum. Memorials are suggested to St.Pius/St.Leo tuition assistance.
