Richard J. Wilson

Richard J. ” Rick” Wilson

August 5, 1955 – October 13, 2024

Rick was born at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs to his parents, Shirley and Richard “Dick” Wilson. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Jacob and Sylvia (Cacka)Wilson; and maternal grandparents, Floyd and Elvena (Jensen) McGehee. Historically speaking, Rick’s paternal great-grandparents homesteaded in Nebraska and the Wilson great-grandparents were business orientated entrepreneurs in Iowa.

Rick went to Council Bluffs Franklin Elementary, then Omaha District 66 Hillside Elementary, Westbrook Junior High, and graduated from Omaha Westside High School in 1973. After a work stint in the Wyoming oil fields, he was a University of Nebraska at Omaha grad.

During high school. Rick worked for landscaping companies and grocery stores. After high school, he joined other high school classmates and worked several years in the oil fields near Gillette, Wyoming.

Later, after graduating from UNO, he worked for the Omaha World Herald newspaper and the Richmond Gordman corporate office in Omaha, where he also did store advertising modeling. He worked at the California State University Northridge, in Dallas Texas, New York City, and Chicago, with computer accounting systems.

Returning to Omaha, as a security systems and accounting rep, Rick recalled California as a land of earthquakes and aftershocks. As for New York, he was glad to return to the Midwest region persona.

Always work orientated, he still kept in contact with friends. He would lend a hand when his Wyoming oil crew members were off work seasonably. When traveling for work, he would look up former classmates. However, the Chicago work assignment demands would lead to health and isolation issues, which led to his early demise at age 69. During this Chicago framework, he traveled throughout the states of Arizona, Texas, Missouri, and Oklahoma, to personally assess audits and security framework during the week, and then fly into Chicago to make reports on Saturday. The following Sunday he would fly out to new assignments.

He is survived by his parents, Dick and Shirley Wilson of Omaha; his sister, Diane Schroeder; and brother-in-law, Wayne Schroeder; nephew, Jonathan “John” Schroeder (wife Ryan); and great-niece, Emily; nephew, Nathan “Nate” Schroeder (Julie); great-nephew, Eric; Aunt Patricia Hunter of Ute, IA; and numerous cousins.

He enjoyed sports, playing pool, fishing, skiing, took in several national golf pro events, and working with electronics. Even though he had several close encounters, Rick remained a bachelor. His favorite auto ownerships were Porsche and Jeep. Rick aways had several pets where he resided.

I just heard of Rick’s passing. My prayers for his wonderful parents that took care of him a lot in his later years. Rick was my daughter’s neighbor before she moved in early 2024. He was always soft spoken and kind and just a nice person to get to know. We will remember him fondly.

We were neighbors of Dick and Shirley Wilson in the Hillside neighborhood. They were wonderful to my small children. I will never forget this lovely family. Sincere condolences on the loss of Rick. May warm memories be a consolation.
