Richard Leo “Dick” Cassidy

July 26, 1931 – June 1, 2018

Richard “Dick” Cassidy, age 86 years, loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and uncle, passed peacefully with the love of family and friends on June 1, 2018.  Dick was born in Omaha on July 26, 1931, to the late Anna (Fitzgerald) and Christopher Cassidy.  He was the youngest of seven.  He grew up in south Omaha and graduated from Tech High School.  After graduation, Dick served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War.  Upon his return to Omaha, he began a forty-year career with Union Pacific Railroad, where he met the love of his life and wife of forty years, Frances Johnson.  Dick was an avid cook, horse racing (Aksarben) and sports enthusiast (Go Big Red).  He was a kind, brave, and humorous soul whose Irish Catholic upbringing was his life’s guiding light.

Dick is survived by his daughter and her husband, Kathleen and Michael Bauer, along with cherished grandchildren, Ryan and Cassidy.; his sister-in-law, Delores Cassidy, all of Omaha; many nieces, nephews and cousins.  In addition to his parents and wife, Dick was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Amy, and six siblings: Bernard, Bernice (Hassler), Marjorie (Topolski), Lucille (Hillis), Jack, and Patricia (Andahl).

VISITATION: Tuesday June 5th from 5pm to 7pm at the West Center Chapel, followed by VIGIL SERVICE at 7pm.  SERVICES: Wednesday, June 6th, 10am from the West Center Chapel to Holy Cross Catholic Church for MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL at 10:30am.  Interment, Calvary Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 331.  Memorials are suggested to Holy Cross Educational Fund.

Funeral attendees are asked to wear a touch of green in recognition of Dick’s Irish heritage.
