Richard Sherman Girton was born in Magnolia, Iowa on 02/02/1944 on Groundhogs Day to Dean & Martha Girton and End of watch March 25, 2016. He had 6 sisters and 1 brother and several nieces & nephews. Richard graduated from Magnolia High School in 1961 at the age of 17 and then he enlisted in the Navy and was 1st stationed on the USS Iowa (“Our Liberties We Prize, Our Rights We Will Maintain”) to begin his 28 year service in our Nations Armed Forces. During his time in the Navy he made many new lifelong friends. Then on September 5, 1970 he married the love of his life Ana Louisa Fermintes and in October of 1977, they wanted to expand their family and adopted a little girl and boy (Carrie & Sherman (Tony) Girton). He had a love of life, riding horses in shows and golfing. Richard had a love of country and the Navy. Always selflessly giving everything to help anyone in need and putting others needs ahead of his own. In 1997 he became a grandfather and then again in 2009, 2011 & 2012. Rest in peace Dad we love you Richard is preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother, and four sisters. Survivors include his children; Carrie A. Beller and husband Anthony of Carson, Iowa, Sherman Girton of Carter Lake, Iowa, grandchildren; Kylie, Ryley, Mylie, Kevin, sisters; Alice Landon of Logan, Iowa, and Ardith Crow of Arizona.
