Robert A. Gross
March 5, 1942 – November 10, 2022
Robert Arthur Gross was born on March 5, 1942, in Detroit, Michigan. He passed away on November 10, 2022. He was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years Jessie Gross. He is survived by his sister Julie Goetz; stepdaughters Shari (Mark) Williams and Libby/Marjie (Stacey) Long; two grandsons, Travis and Tyler Williams. He is also survived by his two sons, Michael and David Gross.
Bob, as he liked to be called, spent most of his youth in New Mexico, where he joined the army in 1966 and served until 1969 in the 62nd army band at Ft. Bliss. He stayed in El Paso, Texas, and became a music teacher for the Ysleta School district as a band director for 19 years at several high schools. He taught 8 years of Computer Science in the Socorro School district until he retired from teaching in 2000.
Bob, a lifelong Episcopalian, felt the calling to serve God and earned his Master of Divinity from Laud Hall Seminary in Florida. He was ordained on December 6, 2008, at All Saints Episcopal Church in El Paso, Texas. He served three years as the priest in Charge at Holy Spirit Episcopal church in El Paso. He then served as a supply priest in the Ft. Worth/ Dallas area before moving to Omaha, where he truly found his church home.
He served as the assistant priest starting in 2019 at St. Andrews Episcopal church in Omaha under Father John Schaefer until he retired in 2021. He then led the church as an interim priest until the new rector Father Keith was hired in the summer of 2022. His sense of humor and kindness will always be remembered. He was beloved by his parishioners and will be greatly missed.
Services will be Saturday, January 7th, at St. Andrew’s Episcopal church located at 84th and Pacific, Omaha, NE. Interment at 10:30 with full Christian burial service at 11:00. Service will be streamed live via St. Andrew’s Facebook page for those unable to attend. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church or the Josie Harper House.
