Robert A. Heins

HEINS-Robert A., age 77 years, Omaha. Graduated from KU in 1952, he was in ROTC for 4 years. He entered the Navy as an Ensign, serving on carriers “Essex” and “Randolph.” A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he attained the rank of 2nd LT. While assigned to the “Randolph,” his first son was born. He practiced law in Sedalia, MO after graduating from the University of Missouri Law School in 1958. In 1962 he re-enlisted in the Navy, serving in Boston, MA in the JAG Corps as a 1st LT from 1962-1964. From 1964 to 1988 he worked for the Army Corps of Engineers as a civilian attorney in Omaha, Oregon, Washington, and Saudi Arabia. Along the way he transferred to Army Reserve, eventually retiring as a “full bird” Colonel. Most recently he worked as an attorney for Peter Kiewit in Omaha. A member of the Kiwanis Club in 2002, he was also a member of the National Ski Patrol for over 20 years. He was preceded in death by parents, sisters and brothers, and son, Kenneth. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Chris (Elsie); daughter, Barbara Heins of Seattle, WA; son, Bob Heins and wife Julie; grandchildren, Emily and Taylor Heins, all of St. Louis, MO; special family members, Samia El Touny and “grandson” Shaheer and very close friend, Chris Kretzer. Services Friday, 2:00 p.m., Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2725 No. 60 Ave. Interment at a later date in Walla Walla, WA. Memorials to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, or Immanuel Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends Thursday, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the West Center Chapel.
