Rest in peace, dear friend.
Thoughts and prayers for the family.
I met Bob at the Downtown Y in Omaha. From that first introduction, he treated me like he had known me forever. I wonder how many countless others had that same experience? We loved quizzing each other on high school sports and how much he liked to speak of Norfolk Catholic HS. RIP, Bob.
Bob had heart and intelligence, best exemplified by his ability to effortlessly summon and recite touching, heartfelt verse fit for the moment that he had long ago memorized. He. could touch the soul of another with his borrowed verse.
He was a stellar raconteur.
I will miss him.
Bob was a survivor with myself of law school torture ending in 1962. Although I never met Mary Jo, am certain he had to find and found an incredible loving woman to cure him not only the law school trauma, but of Spiritual and cultural trauma from the earlier times. St.Margaret Mary’s Church family community sure helped with mine.prior to my leaving there in 1977.. Looking forward to seeing Bob again in the new graduate class as we will have much to discuss and share!
My dad, David McCann also, knew Bob pretty well. They were both in the Army JAG reserve. I only met Bob a couple of times. I remember my dad telling me that Bob was a tremendous athlete and boxer. Those boxing skills got my dad’s friends out of some dicey situations when the friends would mouth off at the bar, even though Bob never started anything. I could hardly believe it when my dad told me Bob played semi-pro football with the Omaha Mustangs. Imagine that: a lawyer playing semi-pro football! My dad, who died in 2016, always spoke highly of Bob.
I am so sorry. May you rest in peace
