Robert D. “Bob” Gregory

Robert D. ”Bob” Gregory

February 11, 1931 – June 4, 2020

Bob was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa on February 11, 1931 to Burg and Verna (Peterson) Gregory who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Theodore (Ted). Bob graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs in January 1949 and Omaha University in 1953 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts. Bob and Vivian (Strong) were united in marriage on May 31, 1958 and celebrated their 62nd anniversary this year. They were blessed with a daughter Jane Ramage (Rich) and a son Robert (Kathleen), who all survive him. He is also survived by grandsons: Brandon (Lisa), Zachary (Kelsey) and Andrew; great-grandchildren, Amira and Gideon; numerous nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; and many special friends.

Bob became a Christian at a young age and loved Jesus all his life. He spent most of his career at Sidles Distributing Company as the advertising manager. He was a great artist but was too humble to consider himself more than ordinary. His uncle took him fishing in Canada at age 14. He enjoyed it so much he made too many trips there to count. He enjoyed planning fun family vacations to different locations every year, and made packing lists so detailed there’s no way he would have forgotten a thing. He started collecting antique fishing lures as a hobby and soon became quite the expert. His favorites were the Gregory and Bad Egg lures. He made many wonderful friends who shared his passion and they enjoyed going to lure shows together. In his 70s Vivian gave him 3 knives and 2 pieces of wood, which turned into over 700 fish carvings. He attended many woodcarving shows throughout the Midwest and more often than not won First Prize in his category and even Best In Show.

Although he loved his hobbies, the thing he loved the most was spending time with his family, especially his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bob was loved by many and will be missed by all. We are comforted to know that as Christians we will be reunited in Heaven.

I am so sorry for your loss, he was a lot of fun, he is going to be greatly missed. But remember, there is no pain , he is in the arms of Jesus, asking him if he know how he put the fish in the bottle.
