Robert Gene Olson

Robert was born on October 2, 1933, in Merriman, NE. He attended Chadron State College. He Joined the Armed Forces and was stationed in Puerto Rico on Jan. 14, 1955.

Gene started working in construction as a teenager with his father. In the early 1960’s, at the age of 28, Gene started his own business, RG Olson Construction, which is still in operation to this day. Over the years, Gene hired (and fired) many dozens of friends and family, teaching them the carpentry craft.

Gene was an usher at St. Bernadette Catholic Church for many years. He also helped the St. Bernadette Grade School wrestling program as a coach.

Gene and Corky have hosted a 4th of July Open House breakfast since 2009 serving breakfast to 100+ guests each year.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria “Corky” Olson; daughter, Connie Kenny; sons, Michael (Sande) Olson, Matthew (Tracy Kirby) Olson; 10 grandchildren: Andrew Popek, Max Kenny, Nick Kenny, Sam Kenny, Madeline Kenny, Janelle Olson Nuccio, Jill Olson Dreger, Roger Olson, Carlin Olson Wheeler, Jimmy Olson; 11 great-grandchildren: Juliet Popek, Eli Popek, Joseph Kenny, Thomas Kenny, Nathan Armes, Brett Olson, Jazmynne Sorenson, Torri Sorenson, Tessa Dreger, Clay Wheeler, Chase Wheeler; 2 great-great grandchildren, Braxton Olson, Zaidyn Olson.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Coleen Kinney; son, Mark Olson; daughter in-law, Lorie Olson; son in-law, Joe Kenny; great-granddaughter; Kaylyn and Aubrey Dreger; brother, Gerald; sister, Irma Hastings; parents, Alvina and Carl Olson.

VIGIL SERVICE: Thursday, August 31, 2023, 7:00PM, St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 7600 S. 42nd St. Bellevue, NE; MASS OF CHRISITAN BURIAL: Friday, September 1, 2023, 11:00AM, St. Bernadette Catholic Church with Military Rites by Benson VFW Post 2503. Private Interment. Memorials are suggested to St. Bernadette Catholic Church or a charity of your choice.
