NEWMAN, Robert James, Sr. Mar 14, 1925 – May 14, 2014 Robert J. Newman passed away peacefully on May 14, 2014 in Omaha, NE. He was born on March 14, 1925 in Manhattan, KS to Porter J. Newman and Nettie H. Newman. He attended public school in Manhattan, graduating from High School in 1942. He enrolled at Kansas State University for one year prior to enlisting in the Navy in 1943 and serving on a Destroyer Escort as Quartermaster Third Class until he was honorably discharged in 1946. He returned to Kansas State University where he enrolled in the College of Agriculture, majoring in Grain Science. Upon graduation in 1948 he joined International Milling Company and later, ConAgra Foods, serving at multiple locations in the United States, Philippines, and Mexico before returning to Omaha as Vice President of Operations at ConAgra. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marie Margaret Newman; children: Janice Marie Newman and husband William Bradley, Robert James Newman Jr. and wife Kimberly and their 2 children, Robert III and Danielle, and son, Mark Gregory Newman. Robert was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph and John, and sister, Katherine. The family will receive friends Saturday, May 17th from 1pm to 2pm with MEMORIAL SERVICE at 2pm, all at the West Center Chapel. Memorials are suggested to Nebraska Heart Association.
