Robert was born on March 13, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois. He was raised in various areas of California and Arizona by his parents John and Katherine Speering. Robert served in the army for 3 years as a paratrooper from June, 1960-June, 1963. After serving he moved back to the Chicago area where he met his wife Karen Schneider. Robert and Karen married on March 2, 1964. Soon after they welcomed their daughter Marie on September 10, 1966 while living in Bisbee, Arizona. Robert served as an Arizona Ranger and worked at the Copper Queen Mine. Over the years, Robert and family lived in Indiana and Arizona where Robert had various occupations. He worked in the steel mill, was an auto mechanic and later owned his own Marathon service station. Robert and family then moved to Logan, IA in 1985 to be closer to family and friends. In Logan, Robert worked as a cable television technician for many years before retiring at the age of 63. Robert enjoyed educating himself through reading and certification courses. Some of the certifications he held were welding, electrician, auto mechanics, pilot license, law enforcement and real estate. He always wanted to challenge himself to learn and master something new. Spending time with his family was very important to Robert. He considered his son-in-law Kevin one of his best pals and enjoyed attending his granddaughter, Jessica’s many sporting and school activities. Robert enjoyed his time spent at his close friend Roger Seeley’s garage catching up and talking with the guys. He loved family dinners, camping, gold panning and time with his beloved family pets. Survivors include his wife Karen Speering of Logan, his daughter Marie Steinkamp and son-in-law Kevin Steinkamp of Logan, and granddaughter Jessica Steinkamp of Omaha. Robert was proceeded in death by his parents John and Katherine Speering; mother and father-in-law Orville and Helen Schneider and sister-in-law Sandra Robinson. Visitation with the family will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Logan Memorial Chapel in Logan, Iowa. Military Honors will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Logan Memorial Chapel. Honors will be conducted by the VFW Post 6256 and OHara Seeley Post.
