Robert Martinez Sr.
May 15, 1935 – July 21, 2023
Preceded in death by his parents Julia and Ben Taylor; sisters: Juanita, Delores and Jay; brothers: Arthur, Sam, Angelo, Alfred, and Charles. Survived by daughters Carole (Mitch) Cruse, Bobbie Wilkie (Ronnie Blacketer) and sons Robert (Tammy), Jerry and Marty (Matthew); 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren and by many family members and friends.
He graduated from Omaha South HS in 1953 and joined the Army in 1954 where he spent 2 1/2 years in Puerto Rico.
He was an avid fast-pitch softball player where he played for JR’s Bar, Westside Chapel, Duffys and the family team, the Royals. Robert was a highly sought-after pitcher.
He had a passion for art and drawing which led him to a 25-year successful career with USWest Dex. He enjoyed drawing portraits of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren providing cherished memories for them.
After a brief illness, Robert passed peacefully with his children at his side.
Mass of Christian Burial: Saturday, July 29, 2023, 10:00 a.m. at Assumption-Guadalupe Catholic Church, 5438 S 22nd St, Omaha, Nebraska
Interment: St. Mary Magdalen Cemetery

Sorry to hear of Bob’s passing. I first met Bob when I first started playing men’s fast pitch softball in Omaha. The Martinez family is great.
