Rodger G. Smith

SMITH, Rodger G. Rodger was born Nov 7, 1929 in Omaha and was surrounded by loving family members when he passed on Aug 4, 2012. Rodger was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Jane Kreider; brothers: Vernon, Wilbur, and Robert; sister, Ruby. Rodger is survived by his sister, Gladys; the mother of his children, Patricia McGill Smith; his children: Mark (Carol), Paul (Molly), Gene (Amy), Matt (Jennefer), Tricia (Andrew), Marianne and Jane; his 12 beloved grandchildren and countless extended family members. Rodger spent nearly four decades in the field of addiction recovery, primarily at Methodist Hospital. He was a recognized expert in this field and has been responsible for the recovery of countless individuals in Omaha and across the country. In his later years Rodger took pride in having mentored a great number of counselors working in this field. Throughout his time Rodger was guided by his Christian faith and the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. The family will receive friends Monday, 5pm to 7pm at the West Center Chapel with VIGIL SERVICE to follow at 7pm. SERVICES Tuesday, 9:45 am, West Center Chapel to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 22nd and Binney, for MASS at 10:30am. Interment, Graceland Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Rodger’s name to either the Heart Ministry Center or the Christian Urban Education Services (CUES) Foundation, both located at 2207 Wirt Street, Omaha, NE 68110, 402.451.5755.
