June 18, 1945 – June 30, 2020

 

Roger was born June 18, 1945 in Gastonia, North Carolina.

Roger joined the US Army in April 1968.  He served two tours of duty in Vietnam and then came to the Fremont area as an Army recruiter.  Roger married Marcia Sukstorf, May 13, 1989 in Cedar Bluffs, NE.  He retired from the Army in June 2005 and pursued a career in locksmithing as the owner of ASAP Locksmith.  Roger served as Commander of Disabled American Veterans Chapter #2 in Omaha before going through the offices and serving two years as the Nebraska State Commander from 2014 to 2016.

Since his retirement Roger enjoyed fishing and camping at the Omaha Fish and Wildlife Club.

Preceded in death by parents, Mark and Gladys Franklin; sister, Jorita Richardson; niece, Amy Franklin; father and mother-in-law, Clarence and Ruth Sukstorf; and brother-in-law, Randy Sukstorf.  Survived by wife, Marcia K.; children: Beverly Lakey (Larry), Brandon Franklin (Samantha) and Jonnah Whitson (Darry); nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; siblings: Mark Franklin (Deborah), Ann Stines (Dean), Rose Poole (Melvin), Jackie Helms (Randy) and Rocky Franklin (Claudette); and sister-in-law, Patricia Vaca (Ron)

VISITATION: Thursday, July 2nd from 5pm to 7pm, at the West Center Chapel.  FUNERAL SERVICE: Friday, July 3rd, 11am, West Center Chapel with military honors by Benson VFW Post 2503.  INTERMENT: Monday, July 6th, 2pm, Omaha National Cemetery.  Memorials are suggested to DAV Chapter #2 – Omaha, NE or St. Mathews Lutheran Church in Cedar Bluffs, NE.

    You have taught me a lot about friendships and Patriotism. I thank you for your friendship, fellowship and help. You will forever be in my heart and thoughts through the remainder of my life. Thank you and farewell for now.

    My brother was a very special man! Quiet, humble and kind! I am so very proud to be his sister. I am proud of the man that he became and the love he had for our country and for his family! Always in my heart!

    Roger was a great man I’ll never forget the pleasure it was with being around him. I helped him with his camper last year he couldn’t figure a couple things out with it. Then he gave me a phone number to his Nephew. perry and I’ll be darn with roger present I bought a new trk. Just like his. My Condolences go to his family😢 RIP my friend

    Very sad to hear o Roger’s passing i had the pleasure a few years back bowling a whole season with Roger and found him to be a great and funny guy was a pleasure to have known him for even the short time that i did.Prayers and thoughts to his family at a time such as this
