Roger M. Peirce, Jr.
September 26, 1942 – February 10, 2025
Roger’s life journey began on September 26, 1942, in the city of Worcester, Massachusetts, the youngest of three sons of Roger Sr. and Eleanor Peirce. Life was especially good during summers, living where his dad had built a camp-style home on a lake. Rog’s high school years were spent as a track star and college took him to a military university in Vermont. Next, his journey took him on a fellowship to the University of Buffalo and a teaching stint in the Virgin Islands. Finally, he arrived in Omaha as an Army Captain working downtown at the induction center during the Vietnam era. Completing his Masters at UNO, he also met Mary Kay, and they married in 1970. But you can’t keep a New Englander in the Midwest, so they settled in Massachusetts for many happy years with Rog working in insurance publishing in Boston and Mary Kay teaching in the Archdiocese. Roger loved outdoor activities – biking, playing tennis, and cross country skiing. Traveling occupied summers. Returning to Omaha near retirement age brought them back to where their story had started. Now, volunteer activities like delivering Meals on Wheels took center stage along with pilgrimages to Europe’s sacred sites. Despite the many health challenges which plagued his later years, Roger soldiered onward, finishing his race to his Heavenly Father on February 10, 2025.
