Age 83

Ron Sladek – dedicated husband, father of two, and friend of many – passed away on October 13, 2022, at the age of 83 in Omaha, Nebraska.

Ron was born to Tom and Agatha Sladek in Knox County, Nebraska in 1939.  He graduated from Creighton High School in Creighton, Nebraska before attending Hastings College where he graduated with an Education Degree.  It was in college where he met the love of his life, Burnice.  Married in 1961, Ron and Burnice welcomed two sons, Mike in 1962 and Steve in 1964.

Ron began his career working in the finance industry.  He spent the better part of four decades in the same industry.  These jobs allowed him and his family to live in Illinois, San Diego and eventually back home to the Midwest.  In the late 90s Ron began a new career as a Farmers Insurance Agent.  Ron and Burnice worked together until they both retired at the end of 2009.

Through the years, Ron enjoyed fishing and golfing with family and friends.  He also enjoyed playing basketball until he could no longer beat his sons. Not surprising, he was a lifelong Husker Fan! Lastly, he loved to give back to the community.  He was a proud Kiwanis member for over 30 years.  He was a kind and thoughtful man.  He loved kids of all ages.  Ron was authentically and wholeheartedly there for his family and friends.

After retiring Ron and Burnice spent more time going on cruises and in their Arizona home enjoying a warmer, quieter life.  He continued spending as much time as he could with his grandson, Kevin, as well as, his lifelong friend, Jim McGill.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Agatha; brother, Les. He is survived by his wife, Burnice; their two sons, Mike and wife, Mary and Steve and wife, Laura both of Omaha; grandson, Kevin of Lincoln.  He is also survived by his brother, Tom and wife, Barb; sister-in-law, Doris.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Open Door Mission, 2828 N 23 St. E, Omaha, NE 68110 in Ron’s memory.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, October 17, 11am at Presbyterian Church of the Cross (1517 S 114 St., Omaha, NE) followed by lunch.  There will be a visitation held on Sunday, October 16, from 2:00-4:00pm at Heafey-Hoffmann-Dworak-Cutler funeral home at 7805 West Center Road, Omaha.

Ron was a gentle giant, sympathy and prayers for his family. I’m quite sure that Ron, Burnell and Merlin are playing bb in heaven…no pain and perfect bodied, plus a lot of laughs.
