Ronald D. Rohlfs, age 77, of Elkhorn, NE, passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2023. He was born on July 16, 1946, to Alvin and Lila Rohlfs of rural Le Mars, IA, and moved to rural Hawarden, IA, in 1948. Ron graduated From West Sioux High School in Hawarden, IA, in 1964.  He then served in the United States Air Force from 1964-1968, including a tour in Vietnam during 1966-1967. He received the United States Air Force Commendation Medal. His commitment to duty, honor, and service exemplified his character and he carried the lessons learned during his military service with him throughout his life. Ron earned a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Bellevue University in 1974, and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Central Michigan University in 1999.

Ron spent the majority of his career in Corporate Finance. He loved numbers, spreadsheets, and budgets. He prided himself in keeping accurate and concise books. Ron also obtained a Real Estate license and worked for Nebraska Realty. He enjoyed working with family and friends, buying and selling them a home. In. 2018, Ron became a certified BBQ steak judge. As a judge, he participated in several BBQ competitions, getting to ear steak from every competitor, and loving every bite.

Ron was an avid jogger in his early years and walked 3.5 miles per day prior to his stroke.

He was an avid sports enthusiast! He was a diehard football fan, with his favorite football teams being the Dallas Cowboys and the Nebraska Cornhuskers; along with following the Atlanta Braves Baseball team.

Ron’s greatest joy in life was his Family. He loved attending all the grandchildren’s activities, which brought him immeasurable happiness!

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin Harm Rohlfs and Lila Rose Rohlfs; and brothers, Allen and Marlin Rohlfs. Ron is survived by his beloved wife, Sue; children, Ronald II (Amanda), Ryan (Lynette), Renee, Russell (Maureen), Matthew (Starr), Kenneth (Louanne); 14 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson.

Though Ron has passed from this world, his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

VISITATION: Monday, October 16, 2023, 5 to 7 p.m., at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 20500 W. Maple Rd., followed by VIGIL SERVICE at 7 p.m. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: Tuesday, October 17, 2023, 10:30 a.m. INTERMENT: Calvary Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Vietnam Veterans/Wounded Warrior Project and the Methodist Hospital Foundation.     What a heart break for you Sue, I know how much you adored and Loved him! He is now an Angel, and will be waiting for you to join him someday!
