Ronald E. Skoumal, age 88, passed away peacefully in an Omaha, Nebraska   hospital on December 5th.

Ron was born in Omaha to Charles and Elizabeth Skoumal.  He graduated from Creighton Prep High School and then proudly served for three years in the U.S. Coast Guard.  Ron found his career at Continental Can Company for the next 35 years where he retired.

Ralston, Nebraska was Ron’s home for 60 years.  He jogged in the 4th of July Parade Run, coached a Ralston Little League baseball team to a league  championship, took long walks on the Ralston sidewalks, and was a dedicated member of St. Gerald Catholic Church.

Ron was a handyman.  He finished the basement of his house, made a    wall clock out of a backyard maple tree that needed to be cut down, and installed a Ben Franklin wood burning stove for winter heat and enjoyment.  Ron enjoyed playing golf, where his drives were short but straight off the tee and he often one putted the greens.  He found his favorite hobby was doing skilled, delicate woodworking/carving.

Ron was loved by many friends and family.  He is survived by four children: son, Steve M. Skoumal of Boca Raton, Florida, son, John E. Skoumal (Nancy) of Des Moines, Iowa, daughter, Cathy Skoumal of Omaha, and daughter, Beth Stoneburner (Jeff) of Lake Quivira, Kansas.   Ron has 16 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Saturday, December 11th from 10am to 11am, followed by MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL at 11am, all at St. Gerald Lakeview Chapel, 7859 Lakeview Street, Ralston, NE.  Interment with Military Honors at Calvary.  A reception is to follow the burial at West Center Chapel.  Memorials are suggested to Eastern Nebraska Office on Aging, St. Gerald Catholic Church, or Creighton Prep School.

I am so sorry to hear of Ron’s passing. He was always so very kind to me. I think back with a smile when I recall the time in Arizona when he drove Steve to the emergency department for Steve’s acute gallbladder attack. It was a wild and crazy ride!
