Ronald L. Thrasher
August 30, 1949 – March 15, 2025
Ronald Lee “Ron” Thrasher, born on August 30, 1949, and passed away on March 15, 2025, in Omaha, Nebraska, after a long battle with cancer.
Ron was born at Sacred Heart Hospital in Fort Madison, Iowa, to Merle and Valeria Thrasher. He spent his early years in Houghton, Iowa, where he enjoyed a happy childhood filled with baseball games and building model cars. At 16, his family moved to Earling, Iowa, where he made many new friends and worked alongside his father at the family’s feed and grain elevator.
At the age of 18, Ron enlisted in the United States Army and served tours in Germany and Vietnam. His time in the military had a lasting impact on his life. While serving in Vietnam as a helicopter gunner, he was awarded the Bronze Star for his bravery and dedication.
After returning home, Ron pursued his passion for driving and built a career as an over-the-road trucker. Later, he transitioned to local driving, which led him to meet his wife, Cygreid Together, they built a life in Omaha, sharing many happy years until his passing.
Ron was preceded in death by his son, Jason; who passed away in 2001, his parents, Merle and Val; and his brother, Randall.
He is survived by his wife, Cygreid; his brothers, Tom (Janet) and Greg(Nancy), and his sister, Jan(Mike) Haye.
Ron will be remembered for his outgoing nature, dedication to his work, and the love he had for those around him. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
VISITATION: Thursday, March 20, 2025, 5:00-6:30PM, West Center Chapel, 7805 West Center Road, with MEMORIAL SERVICE to follow at 6:30PM.
Memorials will be directed by the Family.
