Rose Mary (Hoffman) Holmes

Holmes, Rose. Jan 14, 1939 – Jul 15, 2022. Ft. Worth, TX formerly of Bellevue, NE. Loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, colleague, and neighbor.
Survived by siblings: Dwaine (Dee) Hoffman, Joan Koehler, Sr. Patricia Hoffman, Dennis Hoffman, Peg Petersen, Dave (Cindy) Hoffman; husband, Marlan; and children: Michael (Ann) Holmes, Katherine (Mike) Donovan, Bruce (Becky) Holmes; grandchildren: Kelley (Jacqueline) Phillips, Mary Beth (Victor Quach) Holmes, Allison (Sean McClean) Donovan, Brett Holmes, Alexis Holmes; great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Phillips; and a plethora of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Rose made famously fabulous fudge and the perfect potato salad. She loved tending all of her plants, decorating for Christmas, ironing-everything/anything with a wrinkle-and spending time with family and friends. MANY students at Fort Crook Elementary and Bellevue West High School knew her as Mrs. Holmes, secretary, who ALWAYS offered a helping hand, kind words, a little tough love when needed & attended school concerts, shows, and games alike. She worked for Bellevue Public Schools for 32 years. Rose was Mom to many, many, many children.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Marie (Weeder) Hoffman, siblings: Rolanda Johnson, Clarice Joy, Jim Hoffman; brothers-in-law: Darwin Johnson, Paul Swing, Bill Joy, Don Koehler, Loren Petersen; sister-in-law, Marilyn Hoffman; and grandson, Evan Donovan.
Memorial Service: Friday, January 26, 2024, at 11am at West Center Chapel, 7805 W. Center Rd. Luncheon to follow service.
Burial: Friday, January 26, 2024, at 2:30pm at Omaha National Cemetery, 14250 Schram Rd.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Bellevue Public Schools Foundation.

Marlan Holmes, Major USAF (retired)
July 18, 1934 – December 6, 2023
Marlan Holmes was born on July 18, 1934, in Foster, NE, the second son of George Daniel and Lucille (Carrell) Holmes. He attended grades 1 through 8 at Foster Public School and graduated from Pierce High School on May 27, 1951.
On Feb 6, 1960, Marlan married Rose M (Rosie/Rosemary) Hoffman at the Catholic Church in Osmond, NE. They had three children: Michael, Katherine, and Bruce.
Marlan worked for the NE Dept of Roads and Irrigation for a short time before he enlisted in the U. S. Air Force on Jan. 2, 1952. He retired from active duty on July 31, 1997. After retirement, he worked as a Contract Systems Programmer for several companies.
Marlan was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the American Legion Post 339 for many years. He served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Bellevue Baseball Booster and followed all things baseball throughout his life. Marlan enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports: football, baseball, gymnastics, cheer, basketball, swimming, ice skating, bowling, track, volleyball, softball, dance, and soccer.
Survivors include his three children: Michael (Ann), Katherine (Mike) Donovan, and Bruce (Becky); five grandchildren: Kelley (Jacqueline) Phillips, Mary Beth (Victor) Quach, Allison (Sean) McClean, Brett, and Alexis; and two great-granddaughters, Elizabeth Phillips and Leona Quach; siblings, Jimmie (Ann), and Connie Young.
Marlan is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jed (Jean); sister, Sally Beacom; wife, Rose; brothers-in-law: Robert Beacom, William Young, Darwin Johnson, Jim Hoffman, Paul Swing, Bill Joy, Don Koehler, and Loren Petersen; sisters-in-law: Rolanda Johnson, CeCe Joy, Joan Koehler, and Marilyn Hoffman; and grandson, Evan Donovan.
