Rosemarie Anne (Lite) Prystai

Rosemarie Anne (Lite) Prystai

April 12, 1937 – November 6, 2022

Rosemarie Anne Cecilia (Lite) Prystai was born to Joseph C. and Katherine E. (Hearty) Lite. She lived her entire life in Omaha, Nebraska, where she graduated from St. Bridget’s, Duchesne Academy, Duchesne College, and the University of Omaha.

Rosemarie was preceded in death by her parents; older brother, Joseph P. Lite (Carol) of California; and younger sister, Mary Katherine Lite-Swanson (Jack).

Education was extremely important to her. She spent 35 years teaching the youth of Omaha, 33 of those years teaching reading with Omaha Public Schools. She was awarded the Alice Buffett Outstanding Teacher Award in 1997, but her greatest reward was seeing the “light” turn on in her students’ minds when they had mastered the skill at hand.

Rosemarie’s hobbies were reading, ice skating, and watching hockey—especially the NHL and her beloved Detroit Red Wings. She also enjoyed being outside doing yard work and home repairs, feeding the wildlife, and relaxing on her deck. Unfortunately, with the diagnosis of Macular Degeneration and congestive heart failure, she slowly lost her ability to engage in her favorite activities.

Rosemarie is survived by her children: David Prystai, Paula Spanke, Elizabeth Prystai; former daughter-in-law, Sally Cohen (Gary); sister-in-law, Patricia A. Swanson; grandson, Andrew Prystai (Danielle); many nieces and nephews.

She will be dearly missed by countless family and friends, but her strong faith in God will help all of us during this difficult time.
