Rosemary Kathleen Jewell was preceded in death by infant, Thomas Patrick, husband, Thomas M. Jewell Jr., parents, Louis F. Bobell and Frances E. (Riss), sisters, Lois F. Conrad. Judith A. Wheeler, and Carol J. Baker. She fought a battle with cancer, while suffering blindness and deafness. She spent the rest of her life with her cat, Hugo.

She is survived by daughter and husband, Kathleen (Daniel) Raabe, of Gretna, NE; sons, Thomas A. Jewell, and Stephen (Delores) Jewell, and Timothy M. Jewell of Bellevue. Grandchildren Frank Tomasek Jr, Nick (Aaron) Tomasek, Rebecca (Brian), Milner, Blake (Monica) Raabe, Tracy (TJ) Stricklett. Great grandchildren Addison, Joell, Gavin, Kayla and Cody.

Other grandchildren: Carly (Bob) Urbach, Tim (April) Cubrich, Don (Carrie) Kraft, Dale (Alyssa) Kraft. Bobby, Olivia, Ava, Cash, Steel, Jenna, Jaxson, Carson, are also great grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, and special friends.

Rosemary married Thomas in April 1948. They moved to their home on F Street in South Omaha. Thomas died in 1988. Rosemary continued to live in their home until May 2023, for 74 years. Her family is certain she remained there for so long because of the caring, watchful eyes of neighbors Juan and Martha, and David and Kenny. They are caring neighbors who were very helpful.

Rosemary volunteered for over 30 years with the Docent Program at the Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo. She was a great resource of information for the docents, other volunteers, and the public during tours. Spending time with the God’s animals was a source of great joy for her. The highlight of her life was when a Snow Leopard Cub named Rosemary, after her.

** Many folks are concerned about Mom’s cat, Hugo. He is living in her apartment until we find a new home for him. Hugo is being taken care of by one of Mom’s caregivers. He spends his time lounging in her chair or bed, watching Animal Planet, and eating. He also interviews new owners between naps.

Was so sad to hear about Rosemary’s passing. She was a constant throughout my childhood and always had special Halloween treats set aside for us. Prayers to all her family and friends during this time of transition.

Rosemary was a loved fellow docent who would be amazed at our elephant herd today. She loved her elephants! Thoughts are with her family. She will be remembered by her docent family for years to come

Rosemary loved the zoo and kept docents up to date on what was going on. Will miss her smiling face.

Rosemary was my mentor when I first started as a docent at the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium. I could always go to her with questions. She has been greatly missed over the last few years as her time at the zoo became limited. I am so sorry to hear of her loss and offer my condolences and prayers to her family.
