With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, Rosemary “Peggy” (Bogatz) Steinauer at the age of 97. A devoted wife, a loving mother, and a pillar of strength, she touched the lives of all who knew her.
Born and raised in South Omaha as the seventh of eight children. She helped at her family store, Bogatz Grocery, which was well known for their fresh dill pickles. She met Nick Steinauer at the roller-skating rink, and they were married in November 1948 at Assumption Catholic Church. They were blessed with 10 children who Peggy dedicated her life to raising with unwavering love and dedication. Despite facing hardships, including the untimely death of her husband at the young age of 51 and a courageous battle with breast cancer, she remained resilient and steadfast in her faith.
Her passion for gardening brought beauty and joy to her surroundings, reflecting her nurturing spirit, and love for nature. However, her true purpose in life was the selfless act of raising and nurturing her 10 children, instilling in them values of love, compassion, and resilience.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband Nick, her son Paul, daughter Susan Lewis (Bill), grandson Jesse Carty, and granddaughter Erin Lewis. She is survived by her children, Sheila Protaskey (Phil), Richard Steinauer (Cathy Baker, deceased), Mark Steinauer (Cindi), Sharon Steinauer, Judie Osowski (Mitch), Nick Steinauer (Amy), Mike Steinauer (Alice), Pat Steinauer (Lori), 26 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, and all those she touched with her kindness and wisdom. She will be deeply missed, but forever cherished for the love and guidance she shared.
May her soul rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the beauty of the gardens she tended with care.
Memorials may be made to JDRF (www.JDRF.org), Prader-Willi Syndrome Association (www.pwsausa.org), or donations directed to the family for an ABLE account for the care of Sharon Steinauer.

Aunt Peggy was one of my favorite role models. She made Mother laugh with some of her comical insights! She (& Uncle Nick) were very special to my folks. May her Soul rest in peace.

Prayers and love to all of our cousins. Well done aunt Peggy! RIP!
Condolences and prayers to the Steinauer family..I’ve known Peg and Nick ever since they moved to O Street. The oldest girls babysat for us, Judie went to school with Yolie, Dorothy Sporven, and myself, and we watched Nick, Mike and Pat were always around. I miss those days! O street wouldn’t have been the same. Without the Steinauer family. I know her family will have good memories of Peg to remember through the years. Our prayers are with you all.
Sheila and Phil, I was so sorry to hear about the death of your mother. I remember her as a very kind, patient, lady. May she rest in peace.
