Rosemary Tessin

Rosemary Tessin

July 15, 1933 – December 5, 2023

Rosemary Tessin, age 90, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 5, 2023, with her family by her side.  Rosie was born July 15, 1933, to Hazel and Nelson Fowler in Omaha and was the youngest of five. She grew up in Omaha and graduated from Omaha South High School in 1951 and married the love of her life, Raymond Tessin, in 1953. Rosemary worked as a secretary at Lakeland Engineering for 25 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and homemaker, all roles she cherished deeply.

Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church was her church home from 1976 until her passing. Rosemary’s faith was a source of great comfort, hope, and joy in her life.  She lived her faith in service to others in a variety of ways both in and outside of the church.  She and her sister, Anne McKenna, were known as “The Sisters,” delivering flowers and being involved in Women’s Circle 4. In retirement, Rosie prepared meals regularly at Stephen Center, a homeless shelter and substance abuse treatment center in South Omaha.

Rosie’s greatest love was her family. She and Ray had many fun times with their siblings and dear friends, Pete and Lu and Butch and Mary Ann. Rosie had the biggest heart, was always welcoming, always interested in others-what was happening in your life, always concerned about us and our friends.  She loved well and was well loved! She lovingly prepared multiple dishes for parties which made her notoriously late for family/friend functions, but it was always worth the wait!

Her other interests included reading, planting flowers, traveling, cooking and baking, and spending time outdoors. She also dearly loved all of her pets. While she enjoyed watching just about any sport, Rosemary enthusiastically cheered on the Husker football and volleyball teams.

Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents, Hazel and Nelson Fowler; brothers, Robert, James, and Lee; sister, Anne; husband, Raymond; son, John; infant son, James; son-in-law, Duffy Duncan; and beloved dogs, Dolly and Roxy. Survived by daughter, Jennifer Duncan; son, Thomas Tessin; daughter, Dianna Calvert (Troy Schernikau); grandchildren, John Duncan (Emily), Jeff Duncan (Rachel), Alyssa Pflug (Anthony), Ben Tessin (Abby), Jessica Moore (Chris), Mariah Tessin, Hunter Tessin, Madelyn Calvert, Leah Calvert, Grace Calvert; and great-grandchildren, Bryant Duncan, Pauleyna Duncan, Mira Pflug, and Jack Tessin; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank Bernice, her at-home caregiver these last few years for her friendship and compassionate care, along with Brookestone Village for their compassionate care during her stays over the past few years.

In lieu of flowers, please consider Memorials to Stephen Center, 2723 Q Street, Omaha, Nebraska 68107, or Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church, 2650 Farnam Street, Omaha, Nebraska 68117.

My heart is sad for the physical loss of Rosie to her family and friends, but my soul rejoices knowing she is with God, and her husband Ray.
She made a difference in the lives of many. I consider myself blessed to have known such a sweet, wonderful lady
