ROSSE, Dr. Therese M., Ph.D.

Dr. Therese M. Rosse, Ph.D. Dec 23, 1936 – Jul 6, 2015 Dr. Therese M. Rosse, Ph.D., was laid to rest on July 10, 2015 in a private ceremony in Omaha, NE. She was born Therese Marie McCoy on December 23, 1936, in Orleans, NE. Her family later moved to Omaha, NE where Therese attended Duchesne Academy. After graduating from high school, she attended St. Therese in Winona, MN. Her schooling was interrupted when she married her high school sweetheart, John A. Rosse, and raised her four children. Therese would later go on to earn a Bachelor of Science undergraduate degree from the College of St. Mary, Omaha, NE, a Master’s of Science degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and a Ph.D. Degree in Philosophy from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Therese’s passion for learning and helping children was evident as she taught all spectrums of education, from kindergarten through college. She was employed by the State of Iowa as a reading and special education consultant. Therese authored several educational publications and served as test reviewer for Scott Foresman Publication. An avid reader in all aspects of literature, Therese was known for her bright mind and vast knowledge. She traveled the world collecting art and other trinkets from her journeys and always had a story associated to them she would love to tell. Her beautiful smile and twinkle in her eye would warm a person’s heart. Therese was an Advisor to the Mayor’s Commission on Women, a member of Phi Delta Kappa, Phi Delta Gamma, and Phi Alpha Theta. She was inducted into Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in the World, and followed her father Ford H. McCoy’s footsteps when she was inducted into Who’s Who in America. Doctors and staff from MD Anderson remarked that Therese served as inspiration to other cancer patients. She made life trials look easy and approached them with grace, dignity, and ease. On July 6, 2015, Therese succumbed to Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Therese leaves behind her four children: Michelle Rosse-Giroux, John E. Rosse, Robert A. Rosse and his spouse Karen, and David A. Rosse; seven grandchildren: S. Blake Giroux, Lauren Giroux, Isabella Rosse, Andrew Rosse, spouse Amanda, Aaron Rosse, Daniel Rosse, and Dylan Rosse; and three great-grandchildren: Chloe Rosse, Leah Rosse, and Selah Rosse. The family would like to acknowledge the Visiting Nurses Association, the Josie Harper Hospice House, and MD Anderson Cancer Center for the loving care and support given to Therese and her family during this difficult time. Contributions made to MD Anderson in Therese’s name are appreciated.
