Roxie Marie (Winkler) Lewis
January 1, 1939 – July 11,2024
With her sons by her side, Roxie Marie (Winkler) Lewis, age 85, experienced earthly death on July 11, 2024, having been fortified by the Sacraments of the Church and surrounded by much prayer and love.
Roxie was born on January 1, 1939, in Petersburg, Nebraska, to Henry and Helen Winkler. She graduated from Petersburg St. John High School with the class of 1956. She then attended St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Lincoln, NE, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1959. She married Terry Lewis on April 28, 1962, and they were blessed with two sons, Thomas and Ryan, whom they raised on the Lewis Family Farm east of Valley, NE. She loved Jesus Christ, was close to His Mother Mary, and deeply held her Catholic faith. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, a second mom to her siblings, an exceptional nurse, and extremely loyal to family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Terry; her parents; her brothers, Larry Winkler and Terry Winkler; her sister, Leah Pittenger; and her in-laws Clarence and Iona Lewis.
She is survived by son, Dr. Tom Lewis and wife Tonya; grandsons, Jacob and Tyler Lewis, and granddaughter Morgan Lewis; and by son, Rev. Ryan Lewis; her brother, Don Winkler (Shirley); her sister, Sheila Winkler (Leroy Henderson); many nieces, nephews and friends.
VISITATION: Friday, July 19th from 6:00pm to 7:30p.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 5419 N. 114th St., with a presentation by the Nebraska Nurse Honor Guard at 7:30, followed immediately by a VIGIL SERVICE. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: Saturday July 20th at 10:30am., St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Interment: Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Elkhorn.
Memorials are suggested to Mt. Michael Benedictine Abbey, 22520 Mt. Michael Road, Elkhorn, NE, 68022

Many prayers and deep sympathy at the loss of our dear friend and nursing classmate Roxie. She fought the good fight. We will have prayers for her today at our 65th reunion from the St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing. May she rest in peace.

Tom, Ryan and family… All of you are in my prayers as you mourn the loss of your mom, celebrate Roxie’s life and welcome her HOME to Jesus.
Although I’m from Albion and Roxie was from Petersburg, we managed to form a friendship and had a lot of fun together back in the old days. I’m sorry we lost track of each other. We always had a good laugh or two. She’s now in the arms of her Savior.
I met Roxie after moving into Lakeside Hills Apartments. Roxie also had a friendly smile and warm greeting. I certainly enjoyed knowing her. May she rest in peace!!

Roxie could make anyone smile. Her laughter filled the room. Anyone who came in contact with Roxie instantly became a better person just by meeting her. Dr Tom and Father Ryan (and your loved ones) I am so sorry for the loss of Roxie. I was blessed to be a part of her journey and get to spend so much time with her. I sure do miss her. Sending you all hugs, thoughts and prayers. Love you all.
