Ruth A. Welborn

Ruth A. Welborn

July 29, 1932 ~ August 24, 2024

Ruth was preceded in death by her newborn son, Thomas Jr. (1958, twin to Steve); husband, Thomas (Tom, 2016); parents; 13 brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her children: Steven, Susan, Mark (Kim), and Michael; grandchildren: Shane Logan (Alyssa), Ashley Webb (Angel), Barbara Welborn, and Hannah Verrill (TJ); great-grandchildren, Arya and Gwenevere (children of Shane and Alyssa).

Born on a farm in Maine, Ruth learned the value of family, hard work and generosity early on. These things guided her throughout her life.

Her long and full life included a childhood spent with family and friends in the beautiful Maine countryside, grade school and high school, work (briefly) as a fashion model, and a stint in the Navy during the early to mid-1950s, at Memphis Naval Air Station, where she met her husband, Tom.

After the Navy, Ruth was mother “mom” to four loving children (three brats and Steve, a special needs child), sharing her outstanding culinary skills with family, friends and acquaintances. She engaged in extensive travel with Tom to places including Mexico, Hawaii, England and several locations in Europe, due to numerous sales contests Tom won as an independent insurance agent.

Later, in addition to being an outstanding cook and baker, she discovered her artistic side via ceramics, painting and candy making. Her masterpieces in the kitchen, the ceramics studio, at the easel and in her “candy shoppe” were wondrous marvels at the time and her enduring creations continue to delight family and friends to this day.

Although she had her hands full with four children and the seemingly endless chores of a dedicated mom and homemaker, she found time to volunteer with organizations including, St. Pius X Catholic Church, Parents Professionals and Associates, a group dedicated to helping special needs individuals participate in social activities, and the Madonna School.

Her presence, her quick and beautiful smile, her dry sense of humor, and her steady commitment to serving others will be keenly missed. The memories we have will last forever. Go with Love, mom. Rest in peace.
