Ruth Catherine Hogan was born to Madeline and Michael Kalamaja in Omaha, Nebraska on September 12, 1922.  She was the youngest of eight children.  Ruth attended Cathedral High School and then began to work at Northern Natural Gas.  She met the love of her life, Dennis P. Hogan, Jr. on the streetcar in South Omaha.  They had six children and were married nearly 60 years before Denny passed away in 2006.  Ruth loved celebrations and there were many.  She was the matriarch of a large family and always dressed the part.  Ruth was dressed to a tee, often in pink.  Her smile brightened the room.  She remembered birthdays and anniversaries, and everyone looked forward to receiving her cards.  Ruth was so proud of her legacy and will be remembered for her heartfelt toasts she gave at family events. The toasts started something like, “Den and I started all this…” and ended something like, ”I am so happy you are my family!” Ruth was a Creighton basketball fan, played bridge and enjoyed Wheel of Fortune.  She said the rosary frequently and her faith was a large part of who she was.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis P. Hogan, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Marianne Hogan.  She is survived by Dennis P. Hogan III (Renee), Terry Hogan (Debbie), Michele Greenwood (Patrick), Katie Mullen (Sean), Bob Hogan (Karin) and Molly Searl (Scott); 28 grandchildren; and many, many great-grandchildren.

Dearest Ruth. It was beyond privilege that I was able to care for you these past 3 years. I’ve taken care of many people in my life but you were by far the sweetest. I will miss you so much, but I’m happy that you are reunited with your sweetheart. Your stories of Denny and the love you two shared will forever be in my heart. I will always do my face care because of you. So when I’m 99 I have skin like yours. Thank you Hogan, Greenwood, Mullen and Searl families for allowing me to take care of your mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. The next person I take care of will have very big shoes to fill following Ruth ❤❤

    Love Jess

My condolences to the Hogan family on the passing of your mother. As a child, I spent so much time at your house that I probably wore out my welcome. Your mother was ALWAYS kind and pleasant. I will remember her sweet smile and overall supportive nature. I know she was proud of all of you. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
