In Loving Memory of Ruth Ellen Bohling Lubischer
May 22, 1946 – January 8, 2025
Ruth E. Bohling Lubischer, aged 78, passed away peacefully on January 8th, 2025, surrounded by her beloved family.
Born on May 22, 1946, in Carroll, Iowa, Ruth was the youngest child of Bernadine (Hausmann) and John Bohling. After graduating from Kuemper Catholic High School in 1964, Ruth moved to Omaha to attend College of St. Mary where she pursued a degree in Education, graduating in 1967. After her time at College of St. Mary, Ruth met her husband Patrick “Pat” Lubischer after being set up on a blind date by her college roommate. They married on December 19, 1970, and built a beautiful life together in Omaha raising their four children.
Ruth was a woman of steadfast faith who served her church and community tirelessly. After her college graduation, Ruth began her career in Fremont Public Schools before moving onto teaching first grade in Omaha Public Schools for four years. She stepped away from her teaching career for several years to focus on raising her four children – Kristin, Kevin, Kara, and Kyle. During those years, Ruth spent many hours tutoring and volunteering her time to support her children’s activities, including coordinating the St. Robert’s Soccer Association and serving as Girl Scout Cookie Mom, along with countless other activities.
In 1987, Ruth resumed teaching at St. Robert Bellarmine School, dedicating 28 years to educating first graders. Throughout her thirty-plus year career in education, she taught over 1,000 students and was beloved by both her students and their parents. In 2007, she was recognized as Elementary School Teacher of the Year by the Archdiocese of Omaha, highlighting her extraordinary dedication to educating students and forming their Catholic faith.
As her adult children graduated from college and moved to other areas (Dallas, St. Louis, Cleveland, Kansas City, Madison, and Brisbane, Australia), Ruth made a point to visit them frequently and she cherished the memories made during these travels. Eventually, her kids settled in Kansas City and St. Louis. In 2020, Pat and Ruth moved to Roeland Park, Kansas which allowed their children and grandchildren more opportunities and time to spend together as a family. The whole family would enjoy summer time together at Table Rock Lake, compete against each other at the “Lubischer Olympics”, and come together for graduations, First Communions, Confirmations, and holidays.
Ruth was a devoted and hands-on Grandma and was blessed with eight grandchildren who brought endless joy to her life. With all of her grandchildren, she loved doing puzzles, reading books, and playing card games well into the evening. Ruth loved to see that her children and their spouses are extremely close and love spending time together. She also loved to see the close bonds her grandchildren built as cousins.
Her legacy of love, kindness, and Catholic devotion will forever remain in the hearts of all those she touched. Rest in peace Ruth. You will be deeply missed and forever loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, and their spouses: Bill Bohling (Joyce), Fredrick Bohling (Charlene), Mary Kay (Joe) Sporrer; a niece, Tricia Limbaugh; a nephew, Joe Sporrer; a great-niece, Emma Gehring; as well as her in-laws, Richard and RoseMary Lubischer.
