Scott C. Di Lorenzo, D.D.S.

Scott C. Di Lorenzo, D.D.S.

November 6, 1949-June 11, 2025

Dr. Scott C. Di Lorenzo, retired U.S. Air Force Colonel, respected dentist and professor, beloved husband, father, and “Papa”, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2025, in Omaha, Nebraska. He was 75 years old.

Born November 6, 1949, in Richland, Washington, Scott lived a life of unwavering service, steadfast integrity, and quiet joy. He earned his Zoology degree from Carroll College in Helena, Montana, in 1972 and went on to graduate from Creighton University School of Dentistry in 1977.

Scott served 21 years in the U.S. Air Force, traveling the world, and retiring honorably with the rank of Colonel. Following his military career, he spent two decades as a full-time professor at Creighton University School of Dentistry, while also operating his own private dental practice. His students admired his wisdom, humor and mentorship, and his patients trusted him for his skill and kindness.

He is survived by his wife and life partner, Marjorie Di Lorenzo; three children: Michael Di Lorenzo (Kat), Christopher Di Lorenzo (Ashley), and Lauren Di Lorenzo (Trevor Deere); seven adoring grandchildren: Cam, Joey, Charlie, Jack, Maxie, Raymond, and Emma. He is also survived by his siblings: Stacy Springston (Mark), Kerry Di Lorenzo (Dawnie), Julie Di Lorenzo, and Larry Di Lorenzo (Lisa).  He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Gladys Di Lorenzo.

Scott was known for his great sense of humor — one that endured right up to his final days. With his sharp humor and easy charm, he had a way of making people smile and feel welcome. He was a wonderful father and an adoring “Papa,” deeply involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren. As a husband, he was steadfast, devoted, and deeply loving. Scott was also a natural advisor — always quick with a word of wisdom, whether sought or not. His kindness and genuine positivity toward everyone he encountered left a lasting impression on those lucky enough to know him.

Scott was a man of many joys and hobbies, especially woodworking – particularly with reclaimed wood from the barn in South Dakota, scuba diving, beachcombing, and painting. A lifelong lover of all things art, he found joy in painting, sculpture, photography, and every colorful expression in between. He was always in search of the perfect picture. He loved sunrises, sunsets, butterflies, birds, and squirrels — the quiet beauty of everyday life. He believed in the importance of family trips to Park City, Utah, Kauai, Hawaii, and Paris, France. He never passed up a visit to Lisa’s Radial Café on Wednesdays or to argue politics and current events.

Scott believed in showing up — on time, fully present, and ready to help. He valued service, honesty, and humility. His legacy lives on not only in the careers of his students and the health of his patients, but in the values he instilled in his children and grandchildren. He taught that hard work mattered, laughter healed, and love — shown steadily over a lifetime — was the greatest gift one could give.

My condolences to Dr. Dilorenzo’s family. He was a well respected Dentist, he was always so happy, positive, and the sweetest person ever. I’ve never seen him angry. I learned so much from him as his dental assistant and he will truly be missed.

So saddened to learn of the passing of a truly wonderful man. So kind, helpful and never harsh word about anyone or anything, Dr De Lorenzo was a beloved leader of the Omaha District Dental Society. He will be missed.

My sincerest condolences to the Dilorenzo family. Dr. Dilorenzo was one of the best faculty members I had in my time at Creighton University School of Dentistry. Faculty such as Scott helped shaped the trajectory of my career and my life. Were it not for the lessons learned, the constructive criticism and positive attitude, I do not know if I would be where I am today. I hate that he is gone but I am so grateful that he lived. God bless the family and may DiLo rest in peace.

Dr. DiLorenzo was my dentist all the way back when the faculty clinic was in Boyne. Somehow through exams we’d catch up campus happenings, trade house maintenance advice and walked with me through my PhD studies, always asking about my dissertation progress. His care, humor and compassion will be missed at CU and at CTK. I know that I’ll never find a dentist who will be as impactful in my life. Thank you to the DiLorenzo family for sharing him with us all. We are better for knowing him. You are all in my prayers.
