Shakuntla Dewan

DEWAN, Shakuntla, May 18, 1913 – Sep 24, 2009. Our beloved mother passed away peacefully at Omaha. Born in Chiniot, India (now Pakistan), Mrs. Dewan graduated from Kinnaird College, Lahore, in the 1930s—one of the first woman graduates in India. She lived in India for most of her life and came to the United States in 1996 to be close to her children. She moved to Omaha in 1998, and from 2002 was a resident of Immanuel Fontenelle Home. Mrs. Dewan had a remarkable mind and a zest for life; she made many friends and participated in a variety of activities at the Home and even learned e-mail when she was in her late eighties. Her husband, Hargobind Dewan, passed away in 1982. She is survived by daughters: Dr. Manju Patney of Bellevue, NE, Sunila Kapur of Wilton, CT, Shalini Dewan of New Delhi, India; son, Vinay Dewan of Washington Township, NJ; son-in-law, Om Patney; daughter-in-law, Suneeta Dewan; 7 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren. SERVICES at 5pm Saturday, Sep 26, at the West Center Chapel. Memorials are suggested to Immanuel Fontenelle Home.
