Sharon Ann Margaret Hogan
October 27, 1942 – February 25, 2025
Sharon passed at 82 years, after living a long and fulfilling life as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, counselor, potter, and friend. She is survived by her children Cathy, Pat (wife, Sally), and Mike, her granddaughter, Marcy, her sisters, Mary (husband, Steve) and Dianne (husband Stan), and her godchild, Jimmy (wife Mai).
The start of the 1960’s was busy for Sharon Lunnis as she graduated from Cathedral High School in 1960, got married to Jim Hogan in 1961, had Cathy in 1962, and Pat in 1963. During this time, she lived in Dundee, on 50th & Cass, supported her husband through Law school and raised her family. Because she loved the sun, beach, and water, going to Peony Park became a natural summer destination for many years. She had a take charge nature and generously included anyone who wanted to go with she and her kids; she included her sisters, stepsiblings, and godchild, 😊 and we all have many great memories of these summers. Additionally, the Cass Street era brought us to Fontenelle Forest, Joslyn Art Museum and cutting fresh roses from Memorial Park. 😊
Then in 1970, Sharon and Jim decided it was time to invest in a home, so they moved out west to her current home on Woodridge Lane, where she was able to live out the second half of her life which was VERY IMPORTANT to her. Here she began her love of art, became a potter, and bought a kick wheel. She also began her passion for crafts and creations; she made and sold corn husk wreaths and made some money. 😊 She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, baking, hunting for Bittersweet, celebrating holidays, and especially loved Christmas with elaborate holiday dinners. It was during this time that Rockbrook Pool became important to her as she became President and always participated in Wednesday night swim meets.
Then in 1973, the baby of the family, Mike was born and brought much joy and love to the Hogan family. About five years later, family vacations were taken and involved many beaches. Pat and mom shared the love of the outdoors and camping with her mom, her stepdad Cliff, his son Steve, and her godchild Jimmy too.
It’s as if Sharon lived two lifetimes since she became a widow at 40 years, after her husband of 22 years Jim died of cancer in 1983. ☹
Although it was sad and devastating at the time, Sharon would become a strong, independent, adventurous, CRAZY, and very capable woman at this time. She went back to school, received an undergraduate degree and a master’s in counseling degree too while she raised her 10-year-old son; she supported his passions in becoming a drummer, as well as skateboarding in the backyard on a halfpipe, as dad rolled over in his grave! This enabled Mike to develop an openminded spirit that he still lives to this day. She worked out nearly every day at Prairie Life Fitness, drank Margaritas there with Yo Club and frequented M’s Pub with her buddies. She often went to Florida to visit her sisters, went to London three times, Mardi Gras at least twice, and celebrated birthday dinners with Gerrylu and Cathy eating Indian food for over 35 years, not to mention supported the arts by going to the Hot Shop, Rockbrook Village, and Countryside Village art fairs….all the while gathering beads, unique artwork, and lots of good times along the way.
She studied hard and got a job with the State of Iowa as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor where she was able to support High School students by finding them jobs, and SHE LOVED IT! 😊 She had a cat named Kelly, found her favorite hairdresser Sara who did her hair for over 25 years, and one last time only two weeks before her passing. 😊 She also had a dog she adored named Toby for over 10 years. After her career ended, she rented a potter’s studio in the Old Market and sold lots of great creations. All the while she had formed dear friends along the way, like Don and Cynthia who became two of her lifetime friends, along with Jim W who was her husband Jim’s best friend in Law school and Creighton Prep High School; she went to Prep’s 65-year reunion with him in August of 2024 and boy did SHE HAVE FUN! 😊 Then in 2024 she met Lupe who HELPED her live happily and to the fullest for the last year of her life. They had much fun together while keeping mom on track in her home and eating nutritious meals; SHE LOVED LUPE! 😊Larry, Bob, and Nick were also good friends to Sharon and helped her through many household emergencies and endeavors. Birdwatching became fun for her too! She lived a nice long life and loved all that entered it! 😊

It was always a pleasure to visit with Sharon – she was a delight. Her passion for art was inspiring and her art shows were so much fun. Rest in peace, Sharon.
Judy (Cathy’s friend)
Sharon was a lovely vibrant person with a caring nature. We were lucky to know her and Jim Hogan as a wonderful couple. Their reuniting in heaven is a happy thought.
Sharon was a dear friend of mine for many years – we belonged to a health club together and we were inseparable there. We were also strong advocates for women. I have such fond memories of all the fun we had together – all the lightheartedness that Sharon was, with such a strong and compassionate soul – and not to forget her absolutely amazing cooking! Rest in peace my dear sweet friend. – Deb Reay Circo
