Sharon Lynne (Potach) Classen
August 13, 1958 – February 14, 2025
Sharon Lynne (Potach) Classen, a devoted wife, mother, sister, and trailblazer in the field of physical therapy, passed away on February 14, 2025.
Born in Omaha, Nebraska, on August 13, 1958, to Eugene and Elenor Potach, Sharon grew up with a love for sports and adventure. She attended Burke High School before earning her undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She went on to receive her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from UNMC, setting the foundation for a lifelong career dedicated to healing.
From a young age, Sharon was an avid sportswoman. She excelled in track and softball during her youth, showcasing the competitive spirit and determination that would define her life. Her love of athletics extended into her professional career, where she worked with elite athletes at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado and with the Nebraska Cornhusker “Husker” football team. She later became a certified equine rehabilitation specialist, traveling the country to care for both human and equine athletes—including many Olympic competitors. Her impact on the field of rehabilitation was profound, and her dedication to her patients was unmatched.
Sharon’s passion for competition continued into adulthood through her love of equestrian sports. She was a dedicated horsewoman who competed all across the country alongside her two daughters, sharing with them her deep love for the sport. Her bond with horses and her knowledge of equine care made her a respected figure in the equestrian community.
Beyond her remarkable career and athletic pursuits, Sharon found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved cooking for her family, spending time outdoors, and caring for her beloved horses and dogs.
Sharon had a deep love for her country and took great pride in being an American. She believed in hard work, perseverance, and the values that make this country great. Whether cheering on Team USA at the Olympics or simply appreciating the freedoms and opportunities this nation offers, she carried her patriotic spirit with pride. Her unwavering support for law enforcement, the military, and first responders was a reflection of her deep respect for those who dedicate their lives to serving and protecting others.
Sharon was the life of the party—vibrant, full of energy, and someone who could light up any room she walked into. She had an infectious spirit and a warmth that touched everyone who knew her.
She is deeply missed by her husband, Gregg; her daughters, Kelly and Kayla; her brothers, Steven Potach and James Potach; and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

What a wonderful tribute to your mom. She was such a wonderful friend and I will miss her every day.
Your mom had an amazing career, beautiful family, friends and a strong faith. She was an amazing person. I personally felt blessed that Sharon moved into the house near Champions with young Kelly & Sky. She was an inspiration and a light to all of her neighbors. She had an enormous HEART. Her “Sky” parties were epic, Halloween with her was a blast carving pumpkin with the kids in the neighborhood as well as the lemonade stands, the root beer floats she made for the kids on a regular basis, etc., the list goes on and on. Our 2 children ages (6) and (4) at the time personally begged us for a dog because of Sharon and Sky. After getting Lexie our yellow lab, Sharon took our new puppy into her home to care for her while we went out of town for the first time while having the dog. The list of things that Sharon did on a daily basis was undeniable a gift from heaven … she was one in a million – I will miss Sharon a ton.
As someone who worked with Sharon and called her friend to me and certainly all horses and dogs, she will be forever missed. She’s gone much too soon. She was fierce in her passions and gave so much from her heart.

1976 Burke High School graduation was the last time I saw Sharon. May she rest in peace.
Potach, I say this with so much love. Our meetings in the hallway at Burke. That is what I remember. Your smile. Your ENERGY. Your VIBRANCE. What a spirit. A little light goes out in this world without you.
Rest easy, you’re now safe in the Lords arms. Burke High class of 1976
She flew in like an angel when my daughter’s home burned. I’ve shared the story many times. She showed up with boots and a coat and a plan for the horses after my daughter lost everything. We will never forget her act of kindness. My sincere condolences.
