Shelly Dawn Gray

Shelly Dawn Gray

March 27, 1958 – July 28, 2025

Shelly Gray was born in Grand Island on March 27, 1958, and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. She is survived by 3 brothers, 5 children, 11 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.

Shelly loved her family and friends, playing games, watching shows, movies, listening to and playing music, food, and holidays; any idea to spend time with family was a good idea! She lived for her Faith and to serve in any way she could, she lived by example in what she believed in.

Shelly was a member of the Secular Franciscan order, a member of Xavier Society for the Blind, was 1 of 8 co-leaders of RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) and had been a part of it for over 20 years, and served as President of the Pastoral Council.

Her prayers and kindness touched many people in many ways, wherever she went her smile was felt in the way she treated others. From a young age she learned she had a musical gift which included playing the piano, guitar, singing, or writing songs. All of which brought her joy when she was able to share her gifts with others at church, weddings, funerals, and gatherings.

She was always looking for an opportunity to do something more to serve God and others and hoped that her musical ministry was one way she helped bring others closer to God.

I am sorry to hear of the passing of Shelly. While we knew of each other, I first met her in-person in Nebraska City in 2002. She and I became close over the years but eventually lost touch. Peter, Anna and Lucy had a terrific mother who will be missed by all that knew and loved her.

To Shelly’s family and friends. Shelly was an Angel on earth and now in Heaven. What a blessing she was to anyone she encountered. My mother was friends with her long before me. I am grateful for the time we spent. She taught me so much what it was to be forgiving, loving and see the good in all things. I will miss her very much. I know she loved her family so much. Until we meet again Shelly.
