Sherry Janette Evans was born on the Philip’s farm by Keosauqua, Iowa on September 4, 1940. She joined her older sisters Rosalie and Joan. She was later joined by sisters Linda and Midge and brother Alan. She enjoyed singing while milking cows with her sister Joan. She used to hide in the pear tree to read a book away from her siblings. She enjoyed torturing her older sister Rosalie by poking the sock out of the key-hole of her bedroom door. She graduated from Keosauqua High School in 1958. She moved to Des Moines, Iowa where she worked for a year and then attended the American Institute of Business. She graduated with an Associate’s Degree in May of 1960.

She met her husband, John, at the American Institute of Business. Being struggling students most dates were walks in a nearby cemetery. John always claimed, teasingly with a wink, that Sherry proposed to him there. They were married on August 12, 1960. It was a small ceremony with Sherry’s sister, Midge, and one of John’s friends as witnesses. They bought a mobile home and set up house in West Des Moines, Iowa. On June 13, 1962 they were graced with the presence of June Marie. The angelic Jon Ann joined the family on October 1, 1963 and their family was complete. The family moved to Burlington, Iowa (the pink house) in 1964. During their time in Burlington, John was a meat cutter at Hy-Vee and Sherry worked the third shift at Champion inspecting spark plugs.

In 1974 the family moved to a farm near Galena, Missouri. During this time John was a meat cutter at a locker plant and Sherry was a seamstress making jeans. Then in 1976 the family moved back to Iowa to the city of Harlan. John resumed his career with Hy-Vee and Sherry used her Associate’s Degree and became the head bookkeeper at Farner’s Five and Dime. In 1988, Sherry got a job with Mutual of Omaha and they moved to Omaha, Nebraska.

Their daughter Jonny and her husband Jim delivered their first and best grandchild, Jessica Jon on April 2, 1989. Soon after Michael Evan (the genius) joined the family on July 24, 1991. Sadly, Sherry’s husband lost his battle with cancer on April 18, 2001. Several years after John’s death, she retired from Mutual of Omaha and started traveling and playing card and dice games. Sherry gained her third grandchild Eleni Rose (the diva) from her daughter June and her husband Tony on September 16, 2004. Her fourth and final grandchild Evan George Sergei (mini-Michael) was born on February 22, 2008 to June and Tony. Sherry babysat all the grandkids and attended all their activities. She continued to spend her free-time traveling and being a card-shark. Sherry moved in with her daughter June and family in 2017. She continued to live with June and her wonderful grandkids until her passing on January 12, 2021. She was surrounded by family and amazing animals her entire life. She will always be remembered for her smile, love and patience.

We miss you.
