Sherry Lackovic
April 2, 1952 – May 9, 2024
With heavy hearts and fond memories, we bid farewell to Sherry, a beloved wife, mother, and educator, who passed away peacefully on May 9, 2024. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and dedication that touched the lives of countless children, families, and friends.
Born April 2, 1952, in Grand Island, Sherry was destined to be a beacon of light in the lives of those around her. She discovered her passion for nurturing young minds early on, leading her to establish The Gingerbread House Preschool, where she poured her heart and soul into shaping the futures of generations of children. Her commitment to early childhood education was unparalleled, and her impact will be felt for years to come.
Beyond her role as an educator, Sherry was the heart of her family. For 49 beautiful years, she shared a deep and unwavering love with her husband, Tim. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, joy, and cherished memories. Their love was a testament to the power of devotion and partnership, inspiring all who knew them.
As a mother, Sherry was a pillar of strength and support for her children, Katie (Shane) Snyder and Tim (Stephanie) Lackovic. She instilled in them values of compassion, resilience, and integrity, guiding them through life’s ups and downs with unwavering love and encouragement. Her love knew no bounds, and her children were her greatest source of pride and joy. She extended that love to her three grandchildren: Easton, Owen and Caroline.
Sherry is preceded in death by her mother and father, Betty and Bob Dana; stepmother, Sheila Dana; brothers: Larry Dana, Bob (Carrol) Dana. She joins them now in eternal happiness. She is survived by her brother, John Dana; sisters, Betty (Mike) Peterson, Sue Canterbury; many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews.
Sherry’s warm smile, gentle spirit, and boundless compassion will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Though she may no longer walk among us, her legacy of love and service will continue to shine brightly through the countless lives she touched.
In honoring Sherry’s memory, let us take comfort in the knowledge that her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved her. May we carry forward her legacy of kindness, generosity, and unconditional love, keeping her memory alive in our thoughts and actions.
The family will host a visitation on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, 5:00PM, followed by Vigil Service, 6:30PM all at West Center Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial, Wednesday, May 15, 2024, 10:30AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, 15353 Pacific St., Omaha, NE.

Sherry, may our Dear Lord Bless You and Keep you in his loving arms forever. You were always one of the sweetest and kindest ladies I have ever met. RIP
I worked with Sherry from 1984 to 2008. We were at three different locations in that time. Throughout the changes and growth of GBH, Sherry and Doris were loving, caring leaders who put the needs of children first in all they did. Countless young lives were enriched by Sherry’s love and joy. She was a blessing to all of us! Her love for her family was her top priority! Praying for comfort and strength for all of you!

Tim, you have my sincere condolences for your loss. Both of our granddaughters have attended Gingerbread House which has been the best experience ever for them. I saw Sherry’s name on the plaque outside but I didn’t realize her connection to you. May she rest in peace and her memory be a comfort to you and yours.
