Shirley I. Jenkins age, 75 of Missouri Valley, Iowa passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at Longview Care Center in Missouri Valley, Iowa. Shirley was born December 27, 1939 in Missouri Valley, Iowa to Lester and Pauline (Christenson) Moore. Shirley and Dean were married on June 15, 1957 in Hiawatha, Kansas. Together they had four children two sons and two daughters. When Shirleys girls were young, she enjoyed volunteering with the Blue Birds activities. She loved being a mentor to the young girls. She provided childcare most of her adult life at home and later went on to be employed at the Beach Academy in Missouri Valley. She truly enjoyed taking care of the babies. She took pride in keeping her lawn maintained, along with having a variety of flowers and shrubs at her residence. One of her best pastime was sitting on her front porch enjoying the outdoors. Some of her best times were outings with her grandkids, whether it was the Zoo, amusement parks, ice capades, or just a picnic and fishing. She was fortunate to have taken a few trips. Her first time flying was when she went to Las Vegas with her friends and family. She took other trips to Wisconsin Dells and Branson, Missouri. She and her husband Dean enjoyed site seeing trips. They took trips to Canada to go fishing, camping, and to see family. They took many weekend trips to Denver for Dog Racing, and also attended the races in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Shirley was always ready to try her luck at slot machines in Council Bluffs. Shirley always had her Saturday mornings filled with garage sales. Holidays and Birthdays were always special to Shirley and she was sure to make them memorable to her Family, especially the grandchildren. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband Dean; son: Barry Jenkins; brother: Ron Moore, great grandson Cam Tierney. Survivors include her son: Steve L. Jenkins and wife Annette, daughters: Patricia Myler and Barbara Ann Jenkins, nine grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren, sister in law: Cathy Moore, brothers: Roger Gibson and wife Wanda, Jerry Gibson and wife Michelle. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Hennessey Funeral Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa. The family would like to invite everyone to a time of lunch and fellowship at the Christian Church Fellowship Hall after the committal service.
