Silvio Vitale

Silvio Vitale

July 20, 1938 – August 8, 2024

Our loving father, Silvio Vitale (Sil), passed away unexpectedly on August 8, 2024, while in the Hillcrest Rehabilitation Recovery Center.  He was born July 20, 1938, in Tunisia, North Africa, the son of Jasper and Theresa Vitale.

Sil graduated from North Riverside High School, Class of 1956.  Shortly after graduating, he married his high school sweetheart, Ellen Vessell.  Sil started his career as a butcher and went to school in the evenings to learn the Tool & Die Making trade.  Our dad was the hardest worker I knew.  He had an unwavering work ethic that not only carried down to his children but also carried down to his grandchildren.

Our dad always loved to cook.  This eventually led him down the path to become the Manager of the Forty and Eight Club here in Omaha.  I believe this was the job that he thoroughly enjoyed doing.  Through his love of cooking, he fed countless people over the years.  Everyone loved his menu selections.  This soon became a family affair.  My mother was the bartender and my dad recruited us kids to help at some of the larger events.  I remember one time when my aunt Yo and grandmother came to visit, he even put them to work.  Those were some of the best times.  I have fond memories of just laughing until we cried.

His other passion was music.  At a young age, I remember listening to some of his favorites like the Beatles, Abba, and Carly Simon on the hi-fi.  He would turn up the volume and we would all be singing.  This stayed with him throughout his life.  My dad liked to just get in the car and take spontaneous road trips.  We would drive listening to music and singing our hearts out.

Sil is survived by his children; Therese, Laura, and Scott (Mary Jane) Vitale, grandchildren; Chris and Chad Everett, Jennifer and Jeff Irwin, Parker Vitale, and Tasha Cline.  Great-grandchildren; Logan, Ethan, Isaiah, Liam, Joshua, Connor, Emma, and Charla.  Great-great grandson; Solomon and Sister; Yolana Giacopelli; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Silvio was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ellen, and son Steven.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 19, 2024, at Heafey Hoffmann Dworak Cutler at 10:30 am.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.  The family will greet friends from 2:00 to 4:00 pm on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at Heafey Hoffmann Dworak Cutler located at 7805 W Center Road in Omaha.  There will be a luncheon immediately following the funeral services.
