Robert E. Smith, Jr., Col. USAF (Ret) April 12, 1945 – August 6, 2015 Bob Smith was born in Reno, Nevada and died in Omaha, Nebraska surrounded by his family. He went to high school in Jackson, Mississippi, but graduated in Lafayette, Louisiana. After graduating from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was a pilot in the Vietnam War. He rose to the rank of Colonel and retired after serving his country for 26 years. Upon retirement, Bob and his wife, Linda, became business owners. Bob loved tennis and his dog, Barkley. He also enjoyed people and made many friends wherever he went. His love knew no bounds as he relished the father-figure role he willingly took on for his nieces. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert E. Smith, Sr. and Jane Towns Smith. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Linda Tucker Smith; brother, Hunter Smith and wife Mary Nezzio Smith and their sons, Scott and Paul and their families; his sister, Mary Smith Cockerham and husband Gerald and their son, Michael McLelland and his family; his in-laws, Betty Macoy Tucker and Patty Tucker Rice; nieces, Taylor Jo Rice and Jesseca Lyn Rice; grandnephew, Kaleb Asher Rice. CELEBRATION OF LIFE and TIME OF SHARING on Tuesday, August 11th, from 5pm to 7pm at the West Center Chapel. Memorials to the Wounded Warrior Project.
