VaLera “Val” Janice Sokol Dec 19, 1935 – Sept 4, 2015 Age 79; passed away on Friday, September 4, 2015 in Mesa, Arizona, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. VaLera was born on December 19, 1935 in Pierce, Nebraska to Alwin and Emma Splittgerber. She graduated from Columbus High School and married Duane (Dick) Sokol on June 9, 1956. They resided in Omaha until 1988 when they moved to Troy, Michigan. VaLera moved to Mesa, Arizona in 1995 where she spent the remainder of her life with her children and grandchildren. VaLera enjoyed taking daily walks with her dog, Chip, and spent a lot of her time outside tending to her flowers and plants. VaLera was preceded in death by her husband Dick, parents and sister; Faye Marshall. She is survived by her children: Cindy Morrow of Chandler, AZ, Kevin (Cindy) Sokol of Scottsdale, AZ, Cheryl (Kevin) Archibald of Omaha, and Rick (Jennifer) Sokol of Payson, AZ and her 10 grandchildren: Ashley, Jamison, Jeffrey, Meghan, Joseph, William, Savannah, Samantha, Emily and Paige; and her brothers Gene and Les Splittgerber. VISITATION begins Saturday, September 12th at 9am at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, 15353 Pacific, with ROSARY at 10am at the church, followed by MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL at 10:30am. Interment, Resurrection Cemetery. Memorials tare suggested to Sunshine Acres in Mesa, Arizona.
