William Lee “Bill” Spencer Oct 9, 1929 – Aug 7, 2016 Age 86 years. William Lee “Bill” Spencer passed away in the loving arms of his family on August 7, 2016 in Omaha, Nebraska. Bill was born to Millard and Gertrude Spencer in Wayne, Nebraska on October 9, 1929. After completing Air Force active duty in Germany, Bill met and fell in love with Maralyn Jane Grandey. They were married on December 4, 1950. They had three children: Michael, Jeanne, and Carrie. Bill enjoyed a thirty-eight-year career with Union Pacific Railroad. His long and distinguished career began with the position of Extra Gang Timekeeper. Bill progressed to senior positions that included Director of Industrial Engineering, Director Maintenance and Planning, Director of Track Programs, and Assistant to the Chief Engineer of the Union Pacific Railroad. After his retirement, Bill continued to work as a consultant for Union Pacific and T. C. Taylor Company, Ltd. Bill was preceded in death by his beautiful wife of 63 years, Maralyn; father, Millard Spencer; mother, Gertrude Given; stepfather, Mansel Given; sisters, Patricia Howell and Ginger Bomberger. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Carol Spencer; daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne and Larry Buland; daughter and daughter-in-law, Carrie Spencer and Suzy Adams; grandchildren: Christian and Chelsea Spencer, Lauren and Jeremy Breedlove, Caleb and Nicole Buland, Cory and Olga Buland; great-granddaughter, Leah Breedlove; great-grandsons: Grayson Buland, Teddy Buland, and Samuel William Buland; many nieces and nephews in North Platte, Nebraska, and other locations. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 12th, from 4pm to 5pm at the Bel Air Chapel of Heafey Hoffmann Dworak Cutler, 12100 W. Center Rd. in Omaha, followed by MEMORIAL SERVICE at 5pm at the mortuary. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the COPD Foundation. The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff of Brookstone Village for their extraordinary skill, compassion, and love during Bill’s recent illness.
