SPETHMAN, Edward C.

Edward C. Spethman Dec 14, 1930 – Oct 6, 2015 Age 84; died after a lengthy battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Ed gave his life to educating young people with over 30 years at Creighton Prep as teacher, coach and athletic director. A husband to Bettie for 53 years and father of seven. Survived by his wife Bettie, and children: John (wife Lily, grand-daughter Adriana), Ellis Ann Orsay (Husband David, grandsons Jack, Nick(Annemarie and great grandson, Daniel), Luke, Matt and Jeremy & grand-daughters Tara and Maria), Coco McAtee(husband Patrick, grandsons Pete and Joe), Thomas (grand-daughters Esa, Simone, Charlize and grandsons Griffin and Quinn), Jeannie Ruch (husband Brian, grand-daughters Reece, Olivia and grandsons Keinan and Aiden), Mary Gordon (husband Dan, grandsons Edward, Paul and Mitchell), Megan Krenzer (husband Jeff, grandsons Will and Ian, grand-daughter Marin; brother Hon. Richard J. Spethman and sister-in-law Janice Spethman. Preceded in death by his parents Edw. J. Spethman and Marie Spethman-Johnson; brother Dr. Gerald Spethman and sister-in-law Ginny Spethman. Ed was a well-respected colleague, a good neighbor, a committed Catholic and long-time parishioner of St. James. Countless former students sought him out long after graduating. A man of few words, Ed’s life spoke volumes in the lives he touched by his quiet and unassuming manner. The family will receive friends Thursday, October 8th, from 4:30pm to 6:30pm at St. James Catholic Church, followed by VIGIL SERVICE at 6:30pm at the church. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL Friday, October 9th at 10:30am, St. James Catholic Church. Private Interment. Memorials are suggested to Creighton Prep, Marian High School, St. James Catholic Church, Boys Town National Hotline, or Lewy Body Research.
