I’m so sorry for your loss. Sr. Doyle was my Angel. She was my teacher at Holy Redeemer. She was has always been there for me and my family. I can’t even imagine the pain of her loss for her whole family. I was shocked to hear that she passed. Her Faith and Kindness will always be remembered.

Sr. Mary Ellen Doyle was one of my favorite teacher’s in high school. Her smile lit up a room and her laughter was contagious. She was always willing to listen to whatever teenage drama that was affecting you and no matter what it was, she never judged. Her hugs were genuine and comforting. My life is all the better for having her as a teacher.
May she Rest In Eternal Peace

Sister Mary Ellen was one of the lights among the teachers at Detroit’s Holy Redeemer High School when I arrived as pastor in 1999. She had already won admiration as a teacher and her students stayed in touch with her even after her move back to her community’s Motherhouse in Omaha at retirement. May God reward her generously for the lives touched by her teacher’s heart.

The sorrow we share is enormous, a painful reflection of how much love and joy Sr. Mary Ellen brought into our lives. . I loved her like a big sister someone I could always depend on to give me an ear. To all my Redeemer Family i feel that Sister would have this to share with us if she could:
I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot
give. So don’t be troubled or afraid: John 14:27

  • Philip L Diegel II Posted August 28, 2018 5:12 pm

Sister there is nothing i could write that would come close to what you mean to us at Most Holy Redeemer school thank you . May you rest in Gods loving hands. The Diegel Family all 12.

Her students at Detroit Holy Redeemer were often conflicted and raw. Sr. Mary Ellen was the sweetest and most unuversally patient person I have ever met. She remains an example of grace and humility to me everyday.

Thank you sister, and God speed.

Condolences to the Servite Community & family & friends. She taught me in 8th grade at Holy Name & her joy was a big part of what inspired me to become a religious-missionary. I know she inspired many, and am sure the Holy Spirit was there ready to welcome her home. Wish I could make the funeral, but will offer mass for her.

    Hi, Sr. Ellen………

I see you made it home safe and sound, and I’m so happy for you. Thanks for being there to reassure me on my first day at Holy Name High School in Omaha back in 1961. I was scared that I’d never see my friends again and that I’d be the only boy in your Latin class. But your smile and laugh calmed me down.

Then years later when I called to say hi, all I said was that I had a beautiful wife and daughter and that’s all you needed to hear, saying “Oh, Tom, I always knew you’d be a success!” Honestly I didn’t feel so successful, but again, you gave me the proper perspective.

And thanks for being there to rejoice with the publication of my book in 2009. You never gave me a hard time about me love of railroading.

And even after 53 years I can still muddle along in Spanish, which I blame on you as well!

All of this meant the world to me. Please continue to be with the many of us whose hearts and live you touched.

    I love you very much!

    Tom

What a great sense of humor as, you would kid about my being taught previous by Sinsinawa Dominicans I’ve though of you often and lost track after your assignment to HR. I’ll always remember you as a beacon of light in my life. It was such a blessing to have had you part of my life
