Stephen Christiansen Holmgren

Sep 23, 1941 – Dec 12, 2017

Stephen was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. At the age of 20, he served on an LDS mission in Belgium/ France and later graduated with a BS in molecular science and a Master’s in Business from the University. of Utah. He took a job with U.P. Railroad and moved his family to Omaha, NE in 1969. He retired from the railroad in 2001. Stephen served in many leadership roles in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout his life. He finished his service as a marriage sealer in the LDS Winter Quarters Temple.  He was loved by everyone for his constant service and unwavering love to those around him. He departed this life at the age of 76 after a valiant three-year battle with cancer.

He was preceded in death by parents, Oscar and Camille Holmgren, and sister, Christine Babcock. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gayle Holmgren; children: Tessin Moss (husband, Wesley), Stephen Paul Holmgren (wife, Amy), Elaine Brandli (husband, Fred), Mathew Holmgren (wife, Kaci), and Kaelia Carlsen (husband, Troy); brother, Peter Holmgren (wife, Vicki); 23 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 15th from 5pm to 8pm at the West Center Chapel.  Funeral Saturday, December 16th, 12:30pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 11027 Martha St., with viewing from 11am to 12noon at the church.  Interment, Hillcrest Memorial Park.

    The best and the kindest seminary teacher (even though I was always late)! We loved Brother (President) Holmgren. Still many things I remember from his class, one of the greatest being his strength of spirit and testimony. Sending much love, prayers, and hugs your way.
