Stephen J. Ruskamp

Stephen “Steve” Jerome Ruskamp

May 18, 1952 – January 6, 2025

Stephen “Steve” was born on May 18, 1952, to the late Henry and Mary (Andersen) Ruskamp in Omaha, Nebraska. He grew up as the 1st of 14 children.

In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sharon (Baade); his brother, Daniel and his brother, John.

He is survived by daughter, Michelle (Randy); son, Mark; grandchildren: Kristen (Jake), Caitlyn; siblings: Laura, Rev. Robert, Anna Marie, Ed, Gina, Margaret, Nancy, Bill, Jennifer, Dave, and Paul; numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Steve shared 52 wonderful years of marriage with his wife, Sharon. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and countless adventures. Steve loved being a father and grandfather, and he took immense joy in the many accomplishments of his children and grandchildren.

Steve retired after 40 years working for Union Pacific Railroad, where he made many life-long friends. After retirement, he was able to dedicate much of his time to the many hobbies he enjoyed. Steve was an avid gardener who took great joy in planning his annual flower and vegetable gardens. He and Sharon took many garden walks and visits to botanical gardens to share their love of beautiful plants and flowers. He was also a self-taught woodworker who loved hand-crafting everything from music boxes to custom built-in beds for his granddaughters to beautiful cabinetry for his living room and kitchen.

Another favorite pastime of Steve’s was his love of traveling and exploring new places with Sharon and their grandchildren. Every summer they planned a trip with their grandchildren in an attempt to visit all 50 states. Steve and Sharon took several cruises, and they particularly enjoyed visiting any destination with a beach where they could relax. He also looked forward to the annual fishing trip with his brothers, and would often recall fond memories of past trips.

Steve will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were blessed and fortunate enough to have known him.
