TAYLOR, Walter Lee

Walter Lee Taylor Apr 15, 1972 – Nov 14, 2015 Walter Lee Taylor, 43, of Omaha, NE, passed away at 4:49 am on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC. He was born on April 15, 1972 in Omaha to John F. Taylor, Jr. and Patricia L. Taylor. Walt was born with a congenital heart defect which resulted in his first open heart surgery when he was five years old. Despite Walt’s health issues he was able to live a fairly normal life. He graduated from Westside High School and University of Nebraska at Omaha with a degree in Political Science. He married his high school sweetheart, Megan (Messenger) Taylor on June 28, 1997. Walt and Megan were blessed with their son, Nicholas, on August 30, 2006. Walt had a successful sales career and most enjoyed his employment with Kohler Company. Walt’s health began to seriously decline a few years ago. He fought many complications with such poise that many were unaware of his condition. Recently, Walt and his family relocated to Durham so Walt could receive a heart and double lung transplant, which occurred on October 24, 2015. Walt fought until the end but lost his battle surrounded by his wife Megan and family. No matter how ill Walt was, he always made the most of everything and never took life for granted. Walt was happiest spending time with his family. Walt and Megan loved to travel and spend time with friends, but no matter where they were they always had fun together and made each other laugh. Walt and his son Nicholas loved to go to movies, read comics, paint the swing set in the backyard, walk in the woods, and listen to 311 music. Nicholas will also always remember his long chats at bedtime with his Dad. Walt was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Walter Hawthorne; paternal grandparents, John and Pearl Taylor; and mother-in-law, Victoria Messenger. Walt is survived by his wife, Megan; son, Nicholas; parents, John and Patricia; grandmother, Adeline Hawthorne; and his siblings: John Taylor III (and wife Kathy), David Taylor (and wife Jolene), and Cindy Evans. He is also survived by father-in-law, William Messenger; sisters-in-law: Michaela Smith (and husband Michael), Mallory Messenger, and Amanda Messenger, along with many other family and friends. Walt will be deeply missed, but there is comfort in knowing that he is no longer suffering and can rest in peace. The family will receive friends Wednesday, November 18th, 5pm to 7pm, with VIGIL SERVICE at 7pm, all at the West Center Chapel. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL Thursday, November 19th at 10:30am at St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic Church. Following the funeral luncheon, interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery.
