It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Terence “Terry” Michael Smith, who peacefully left this world on June 7, 2023 at the age of 70. He will be forever remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, cherished grandfather, and a veteran leaving an incredible mark on the lives he touched.
Born on October 24, 1952, Terry brought light and joy into the lives of his family and friends. Terry served in the United States Navy for 8 years. During this time he was a Petty Officer stationed in Honolulu, HI and Saratoga Springs, NY. He spent most of his military career on the USS Sam Houston. Terry did not re-enlist in the Navy because he wanted to be fully present in the lives of his wife and children. He was a pillar of strength, a source of unwavering support, and a beacon of love throughout his life. His presence enriched the lives of all who knew him, and his legacy will continue to resonate in their hearts.
As a husband, Terry exemplified the true meaning of love and commitment. His unwavering dedication and adoration for Paula, his spouse and the love of his life, was evident in every moment they shared together. Terry and Paula were united in marriage for 45 years, and together, they built a foundation of love and companionship that withstood the test of time. Through the ups and downs of life’s journey, their bond remained unbreakable, serving as an inspiration to all who witnessed their love.
As a father, Terry was a guiding light and a source of wisdom. He instilled in Nathan and Andrew the values of kindness, integrity, and resilience. With endless patience and unwavering support, he nurtured their dreams, encouraged their passions, and celebrated their achievements. His love will forever be etched in their hearts, guiding them throughout their lives.
Terry adored his role as a grandfather, finding immense joy in the company of Holden and London. Whether it was through storytelling, playful banter, or imparting life lessons, he created lasting memories that will be treasured for generations to come. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the lives of his grandchildren.
Beyond his roles as a husband, father, and grandfather, Terry was known for his generosity, compassion, and genuine concern for others. He touched countless lives through his acts of kindness and selflessness, leaving an incredible impact on his community. His legacy of compassion will continue to inspire acts of goodness and remind us all of the importance of caring for one another.
In the wake of this profound loss, Terry is survived by his wife Paula, his sons Nathan (Marcia) Smith, Andrew (Sarah) Smith , and two grandchildren Holden and London. His sisters Connie, Cheri, Melanie, Michelle and his sister in-law Janie. He will also be fondly remembered by his extended family and friends, who will forever cherish the memories they shared.
A visitation for Terry will be held at Heafey Hoffmann Dworak Cutler on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 from 5:00pm -7:00pm with a rosary prayer service to follow. A funeral mass celebration of Terry’s life will be held at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at 10:30. During this time, let us come together to honor his memory, share stories, and find solace in the love and support we provide for one another. Burial will take place at Omaha National Cemetery on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 promptly at 1:30pm.
Any gifts will perpetuate his spirit of generosity and extend his legacy of making a positive difference in the lives of others. Gifts can be made directly to the Smith Family, which will be directed in Terry’s honor to medical research
Although Terry’s departure has left an emptiness in our lives, we find solace in knowing that he is now at peace. May his soul find eternal rest, and may we all find comfort in the enduring memories of his love, laughter, and unwavering presence.
Forever in our hearts, Terry’s spirit will continue to guide us, reminding us of the profound impact one person can have on the lives of many.
Until we meet again, Terence Michael Smith.
