Terry Jay Johnson

July 31, 1937 – February 15, 2023

Passed away after a short battle with cancer.

Terry Jay Johnson (85) passed at 12:07 am on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at Lakeside Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. Terry was born on July 31, 1937, in Belmond, Iowa to Harold and Iola Johnson. He graduated from Belmond High School, Waldorf College, and the University of Northern Iowa.  Terry was proud to have served his country overseas in the US Army ASA.  After his service, Terry worked for Del Monte Foods for 24 years before starting a new career as a Financial Advisor for AAL/Thrivent, retiring in 2001.

While attending Waldorf, Terry met Karen Lee where they fell in love and married five years later (1961) at Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg, Iowa. Terry and Karen loved to vacation in Florida and travel around the country visiting friends and family. Some of his favorite pastimes included golfing, fishing, telling funny “dad jokes,” and taking the grandkids to Estes Park when they turned 8 years old. Terry was also great about reaching out to loved ones with regular phone calls, making sure they knew how important they were to him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Iola Johnson; infant brother, Harold Jr; sister, Nancy. He is survived by his loving and caring wife, Karen; children: Todd (Janel) Johnson of Omaha, NE, Troy (Rhonda) Johnson of Omaha, NE, and Tara (Tony) Kill of Denver, CO; grandchildren: Austin (Marissa) Johnson, Corey (Marisa) Johnson, Lauren (Chace) Morgan, Trevor Johnson, Rachel Johnson, Nathan Kill, Logan Kill; great-grandson, Bennett Johnson. He will be dearly missed by all of us.

A visitation will be held at Lutheran Church of the Master (2617 S 114th St, Omaha) on Saturday, February 25th at 10:00 am with the service following at 11:00 am.

Terry was a very special person to me. I loved to visit with Terry ever since I was a young child. We spent fun times fishing in Canada. He was very social and made me laugh when ever we visited. I know that he is with God. He loved God. I will miss him. His cousin Dennis………..
