Therese (Brichacek) Shramek
April 13, 1928 – Mary 9, 2024
Therese Marie (Brichacek) Shramek was born on April 13, 1928, to Frank and Magdalen Brichacek. Therese was the eldest of the four living children. Therese started school at the age of four because, in her words,” she was driving her mother crazy”. She was promptly sent home from school because she did not know her prayers, but lo and behold, she not only knew all her prayers, but she also knew them in Czechoslovakian!
Therese attended St. Wenceslaus School in Omaha. She received a scholarship to Notre Dame Academy. She then attended Creighton University to train as a laboratory technician. Toward the end of her freshman year, Therese needed to have her appendix removed and missed more than a month of school. This forced Therese to take some time off from college and she subsequently found a job at the telephone company. It was this job that would change the course of her life forever. While there, Therese became friends with Lorraine Bartlett who suggested she meet her cousin, Bob, who was home on leave from the Navy. Therese tried to get out of the blind date with Bob, but her mother would not hear of it. Good thing, because on September 1, 1949 Bob and Therese were united in Holy Matrimony.
Therese always made her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren her number one priority. We are fortunate to have felt her unconditional love and loyalty.
When faced with adversity, especially the loss of her husband, two sons, a son- in law, and her own health struggles, Therese always demonstrated quiet strength and unwavering faith in God. She kept all of us in her daily prayers, but prayed overtime when someone was faced with a challenge. We were so lucky to have God and Therese in our corner.
Our hearts are broken, but we were so very fortunate to have had our beautiful mother for 96 years.
Preceded in death by husband, Robert Sr.; sons, Richard and Robert Jr.
